Cash-free Despair: Cyprus reopens banks as eurocrats grip island's economy

Banks have re-opened in Cyprus, allowing access to savings for the first time in almost two weeks. There's little relief for cash-strapped citizens though, with severe restrictions imposed on how much money they can withdraw. The limits are set to prevent a bank run, making Cyprus the first Eurozone nation to introduce capital controls. The Guantanamo Bay hunger strike has gone beyond the critical 45 day mark, when doctors say the body is deprived of nutrition. Officials at the detention center in Cuba have acknowledged more detainees are joining the protest over alleged mistreatment. This comes amid a Pentagon request for 49 million dollars to build a new prison building and carry out renovations - despite a 4 year-old promise to shut it down. Gayane Chichakyan has more.

Cyprus rules out deposit tax in bailout plan

The European Central Bank says it will cut off emergency aid to Cyprus, if a bailout plan is not in place by March 25.

Cyprus' politicians have held another round of talks on a bailout "Plan B" - to stop the country going bankrupt.

The country is also still trying to do a deal with Russia - which may involve stakes in the island's gas fields.

Gulf seafood deformities alarm scientists
