China Factory Resolution Reached, US Businessman Released

NTDTV·Published on Jun 28, 2013

Chinese factory employees and the U.S. executive, previously held captive, reach a resolution to a row over pay.

Full Story:

A U.S. executive and his Chinese workers who held him captive for six days reached a resolution to a row about pay on Thursday. President of Florida-based Specialty Medical Supplies, Chip Starnes, was held captive by about 100 of his own workers on the outskirts of Beijing since June 21. General Manager for Specialty Medical Supplies, Xing Shuang, says Starnes has left the factory.

{Xing Shuang, General Manager}:
"My boss Chip is exhausted after two harsh days and has gone back to a hotel." The workers' demands followed rumors that the entire plant was being closed after the company's plastic injection molding division moved to India to lower production costs.

After rounds of negotiations between Starnes and the workers as well as mediation efforts from the local labor administration the stand-off was resolved. A written agreement between the two sides was signed early Thursday morning.

The six-day-old stand-off in the suburb of Huairou, not far from sections of the Great Wall, has highlighted one of the lesser known risks of doing business in China. The level of trust between workers and managers is low and faith in the legal system is weak. Consultants and lawyers say angry employees holding employers captive is common in China, often arising out of a mix of mistrust, mismanagement and desperation.

WASHINGTON -- A former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is under investigation for allegedly leaking classified information about a covert cyberattack on Iran's nuclear facilities, according to media reports.

Retired Marine Gen. James "Hoss" Cartwright has been told he is a target of the probe, NBC News and The Washington Post reported Thursday. A "target" is someone a prosecutor or grand jury has substantial evidence linking to a crime and who is likely to be charged.

The Justice Department referred questions to the U.S. attorney's office in Baltimore, where a spokeswoman, Marcia Murphy, declined to comment.

The investigation of the leak about the Iran cyberattack is one of a number of national security leak investigations that have been started by the Obama administration, including ones involving The Associated Press and Fox News.

Beijing Workers still Holding U.S. Boss Over Pay

NTDTV·Published on Jun 26, 2013

U.S. executive Chip Starnes enters his sixth day of captivity over a pay dispute at a Beijing factory.

Full Story:

A U.S. businessman being held captive by disgruntled workers at this factory on the outskirts of Beijing says he is hopeful the row will be resolved soon. Chip Starnes, president of the Florida-based Specialty Medical Supplies, has been held since Friday in a dispute over pay. The 42-year-old said that he has not been physically harmed, but that workers are trying to intimidate him.

According to Starnes, about 100 employees are demanding severance packages following rumors he was shutting the plant down. Starnes said he moved part of the production line to India due to rising costs in China, but that no more layoffs were planned. In a brief meeting with reporters, he said he was confident the dispute would be solved soon.

{Chip Starnes, Co-Owner of Coral Springs}:
"So you know some things happen, some rumors happen, and I think a little flexibility on both sides will fix all that."

But one Chinese official told reporters that there had not been any progress in negotiations so far. He added that Starnes had not paid salaries for two months, prompting fears the plant would shutter without fairly compensating workers.

The US is hacking Chinese mobile phone companies to gather data from millions of text messages, whistleblower Edward Snowden told the South China Morning Post in a report published in China Saturday. And Snowden claims he has the evidence to prove it.

National Security Agency (NSA) spies have also been hacking China's prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing and Asia Pacific fiber-optic network operator Pacnet, the South China Morning Post quoted Snowden.

Snowden has been charged with espionage by the Obama administration after revealing the US governments massive data and phone spying program.

Mindwalk (Must See) A Film for Passionate Thinkers

MsMilkytheclown1·Published on Jun 16, 2013

A Very thought provoking movie. Fantastic (in my humble opinion). Link to full video HERE: http://tinyurl.com/khd6dbg

If you have 1 hour 48 minutes to spare and want to watch a Great film, be sure to catch this one! It's about the interconnectedness of everything, from a subatomic level to a universal level. I liken it to the movie What the Bleep Do We Know?, except better. Based on the book "Turning Point". A film for passionate thinkers.

A politician from the USA visits his poet friend while in France. They walk through a medieval island discussing their philosophies of life when they happen upon a woman named Sonja, who is a scientist in recluse, she then joins in their conversation. The two men listen to this brilliant woman's ideas and discuss how her ideas can work in their own political and poet lives.

Starring Liv Ullmann, Sam Waterston and John Heard. 112 Min. First time on DVD.

Symphony of Science - 'We Are All Connected' (ft. Sagan, Feynman, deGrasse Tyson & Bill Nye) http://tinyurl.com/ykp35v3
Lyrics:

{deGrasse Tyson}
We are all connected;
To each other, biologically
To the earth, chemically
To the rest of the universe atomically

{Feynman}
I think nature's imagination
Is so much greater than man's
She's never going to let us relax

{Sagan}
We live in an in-between universe
Where things change all right
But according to patterns, rules,
Or as we call them, laws of nature

{Nye}
I'm this guy standing on a planet
Really I'm just a speck
Compared with a star, the planet is just another speck
To think about all of this
To think about the vast emptiness of space
There's billions and billions of stars
Billions and billions of specks

{Sagan}
The beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it
But the way those atoms are put together
The cosmos is also within us
We're made of star stuff
We are a way for the cosmos to know itself

Across the sea of space
The stars are other suns
We have traveled this way before
And there is much to be learned

I find it elevating and exhilarating
To discover that we live in a universe
Which permits the evolution of molecular machines
As intricate and subtle as we

{deGrasse Tyson}
I know that the molecules in my body are traceable
To phenomena in the cosmos
That makes me want to grab people in the street
And say, have you heard this??

(Richard Feynman on hand drums and chanting)

{Feynman}
There's this tremendous mess
Of waves all over in space
Which is the light bouncing around the room
And going from one thing to the other

And it's all really there
But you gotta stop and think about it
About the complexity to really get the pleasure
And it's all really there
The inconceivable nature of nature
