Spanish skyscraper missing elevators in monster goof: ‘Standard for the Future’ or sign of current decline?
The InTempo, a 47-story building in Alicante, Spain, has had its construction fraught with problems, including allegations of fraud from both customers and suppliers, who are owed $3.3 million.
Today InTempo has 94% of its structure completed, but the 47-story skyscraper doesn't have a single elevator shaft.
What goes up must walk down.
In what will surely go down in history as one the greatest architectural blunders, the town of Benidorm in Alicante, Spain, had almost completed its 47-story skyscraper when it realized it excluded plans for elevator shafts.
Despite its name, the InTempo skyscraper was, seemingly rushed through the blueprint process, and its attempted message of prosperity through the country's economic tumult has become one that is more fitting to the current state of things in Spain as a whole.
As El País headlines, "InTempo, an incompetence of high stature," the construction of the massive building has been plagued with problems beyond the oversight of being inaccessible. The construction was initially funded by the bank Caixa Galicia, but as of December 2012, financing for the project was taken over by Sareb, which is "known as the bad bank" in Spain.

If this trend continues — and there is no indication that it won’t — the boys on that bus and others like them will be tomorrow’s leaders, and the attitudes they carry with them out of school and into the wider world will have a real impact on real people’s lives.
Photographer Fights Backlash over Baby Wrapped in US Flag Picture
Courtesy Vanessa Hicks Photography(NEW YORK) — A photographer and Navy veteran is fighting back after a photo she posted to Facebook started an online backlash.
Vanessa Hicks said she had no idea her photo would be considered controversial. The photo, from a military family’s newborn photo shoot, showed a newborn infant wrapped in an American flag held by his father, who was in his military uniform.
Hicks, a Navy veteran herself and the wife of an active-duty Navy member, said her intention was to honor the flag as well as her clients, who wanted to incorporate their military service in the photo shoot.
“This is what he was fighting for, his son wrapped in an American flag,” Hicks told ABC News.

However, when she posted the image on her page, she started to get comments accusing her of desecrating the flag.
On one Facebook page, an unidentified poster put up her picture and wrote that they found it was “disrespectful, rude, tacky, disgusting, and against the U.S. Flag Code.”

The passage of the bill by the state Senate on Tuesday comes as states struggle to obtain lethal injection drugs amid a nationwide shortage.
The bill’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Paul Ray of Clearfield, touted the measure as being a more humane form of execution. Ray argued that a team of trained marksmen is faster and more humane than the drawn-out deaths that have occurred in botched lethal injections.
The bill gives Utah options, he said. “We would love to get the lethal injection worked out so we can continue with that but if not, now we have a backup plan,” Ray told The Associated Press.
Opponents, however, said firing squads are a cruel holdover from the state’s wild West days and will earn the state international condemnation.

Leighton, a 27-year-old chemical plant worker and Pasadena resident went to the Bombshells near Fuqua on Saturday night after seeing Alan Jackson hours earlier at RodeoHouston (see review and photos). He and a friend Chad Moss, 22, entered the bar sometime around 9 p.m. Leighton says.
He had been there a few times before and was never told to leave because of his facial tattoos until Saturday evening.
He says that a police officer walked up to the table that he and Moss were sitting at and said that he needed to escort them out of the bar.
At the other Bombshells locations, including the one down Gulf Freeway in Webster, he says he has always been welcomed even with the tattoos on his face.

The staff member even offered to meet with Leighton at the Bombshells in Webster to chat. They also apologized for any embarrassment he felt on Saturday.
They did stress that this location is a special case and they didn’t want gangs to “overtake” the establishment.

Parker Rice, 19, is an OU freshman. It is believe he did not even live in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house, which was shut down by the university on Monday.
Rice graduated last year from the prestigious Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.
A spokesman for the school's president, Mike Earsing, told Daily Mail Online: 'We know for sure it is one of our students and it is Parker Rice.'
Daily Mail Online was the first to confirm Rice's identity.
On Tuesday, university president David Boren said he has expelled two students who were identified as 'leaders' of the racist chant. A university spokesman declined to say whether Parker was one of those two students.

A man who sent nude photos of his ex-boyfriend — a high school teacher in Pasadena – to the victim’s colleagues as well as some students was sentenced Monday to six months in jail and five years probation.
Pasadena Superior Court Judge Elaine Lu also ordered David Galvan, 38, to complete 200 hours of community service and attend anger management classes.
Galvan pleaded no contest on Feb. 13 to one felony count of false impersonation and one misdemeanor count of distribution of obscene matter.
Galvan sent naked pictures of his ex-boyfriend via the teacher’s Muir High School work email to teachers, students and others in the victim’s contact list last July.

Earlier on Monday, Boren gave the fraternity members less than 24 hours to vacate their house on campus.
He may have offered to buy the frat members a bus ticket out of town - but it seems some of the members will drive a Cadillac instead. An Escalade SUV was among several vehicles - including two U-Haul trucks that were parked outside the fraternity on Monday morning, according to KOCO-TV.
Fraternity members refused to talk to members of the press as they packed up their belongings and loaded them into the trucks.

Woman, 20, who cried rape by 'black man' in Brooklyn park recants story hours later:
A 20-year-old woman told police that a masked black man raped her in a Brooklyn park Saturday — but recanted her story hours later, saying it never happened, cops said.
The woman, who is white, showed up at the Woodhull Hospital Emergency Room at about 2:15 a.m. claiming she was raped.
She said her fictitious attacker cut her blouse and bra with a knife before forcing himself on her at Rodney Park North in Williamsburg about 12:15 a.m.
She said the suspect — supposedly 6-feet-5 and 220 pounds — scratched her chest.
The alleged victim, whose clothes were torn and had visible injuries, appeared quite believable as she gave investigators specific details about the attacker, law enforcement sources said.
