Intimidation: The Only Thing Bernie Sanders’ Supporters Actually Do Well

Intimidation: The Only Thing Bernie Sanders’ Supporters Actually Do Well
Despite their many shortcomings, Berners are kinda good at hate mail
By Jon Reinish • 05/18/16 3:02pm

Over the last week, I received a flood of what can only be described as hate mail… for the first time since sixth grade. All stem from several pieces published that are critical of Senator Bernie Sanders, his presidential campaign’s messaging and tactics—and the overall demeanor of his supporters. All come from my perspective as a Democrat and a progressive onlooker. Much like the Beyhive, which descends with fury on any rumored Becky with the good hair, the Berners also lash out, unhinged, on any perceived heretic to dares question their prophetic candidate or his place in the race.

It’s been quite a wake-up call.

Among the ugliest? “Jon Reinish deserves to watch his children die of brain cancer. We all know you media bastards are trying to colour the race and you will be remembered.”

Um, wow.

Bernie. Don’t Do This.

Bernie. Don’t Do This.
With a scorched-earth campaign against Clinton, Sanders is risking his party’s nominee, its coalition, and his message.
By Jamelle Bouie MAY 19 2016 7:26 PM

Bernie Sanders is still in it to win it. Which is a problem. Because he can’t.

Hillary Clinton holds 1,768 pledged delegates—allocated through primaries and caucuses—to Sanders’ 1,494. To overcome that deficit, Sanders would have to win 67 percent of all remaining delegates, including massive wins in Clinton-friendly states such as California and New Jersey. Barring an extraordinary shift, this won’t happen. It’s not a live possibility.

But the Sanders campaign doesn’t seem to care. “While Mr. Sanders says he does not want Mr. Trump to win in November, his advisers and allies say he is willing to do some harm to Mrs. Clinton in the shorter term if it means he can capture a majority of the 475 pledged delegates at stake in California and arrive at the Philadelphia convention with maximum political power,” reports the New York Times on the campaign’s newest strategy—a scorched-earth run to the finish.

Liberal media turns on Sanders

Liberal media turns on Sanders
By Niall Stanage - 05/19/16 06:00 AM EDT

Bernie Sanders is suddenly facing a barrage of criticism from liberal commentators.

As the fallout from last weekend’s Nevada Democratic convention spreads, sharply critical pieces about the White House hopeful and his campaign have appeared in progressive outlets such as Mother Jones, Talking Points Memo and Daily Kos within the past 48 hours.

The Sanders campaign has also taken hits from progressive CNN contributor Sally Kohn, who endorsed the Vermont senator from the stage at a massive rally in New York City just before the Empire State’s April primary.

Kohn wrote an article published Wednesday for Time magazine that was headlined, “I felt the Bern but the Bros are extinguishing the flames.”

Feinstein cites '68 chaos in warning against Sanders convention plan-Boxer feared for her safety

Feinstein cites '68 chaos in warning against Sanders convention plan
By Eugene Scott and Eric Bradner, CNN
Updated 2:28 PM ET, Wed May 18, 2016

Washington (CNN)California Sen. Dianne Feinstein is warning that Bernie Sanders' intention to take his candidacy to the Democratic convention in July could spark unrest similar to the chaotic 1968 convention in Chicago and the riots surrounding it.

"It worries me a great deal," Feinstein told CNN's Manu Raju. "You know, I don't want to go back to the '68 convention, because I worry about what it does to the electorate as a whole -- and he should, too."

Earlier Wednesday, California's other Democratic senator, Barbara Boxer, said Sanders supporters should attempt "to change the primary process, but not to go out there and throw chairs and to put people's lives in danger because the democratic process as put forward and ratified by the two parties is being carried out."

Boxer said she felt threatened after outbursts and threats at the Nevada Democratic Convention from supporters of Sanders over the weekend.
"I feared for my safety and I had a lot of security around me," she told CNN's Kate Bolduan on "At This Hour." "I've never had anything like this happen."
