A senior student had written a long and thoughtful essay about Clemson and how it could be improved. Basically it was about considering others more. Obviously this is not an issue confined to Clemson. She made it abundantly clear that there were many things she appreciated about the school.

I was going to respond to some of her comments but the first post I read that was sent to her caught my hair on fire. I went after that toad with both barrels.

Here is the post a middle-aged man wrote in response:
"Get a job sweetheart. Grow out of your millennial feelings into adult realities. Earn a whole lot of money in the adult world, (who doesn't care what Gannett or USA Today cares about), give it to the school, and then you will have a real voice. In the meantime, you will do better screaming your little brains out in front of Harcombe dining hall. I just love snowflakes, even the orange ones."

My answer back to him:
To begin with she's not your sweetheart. Using that term to someone you don't know is disrespectful and shows a complete lack of manners. In addition, she has every right as do others to voice their concerns whether they have a billion dollars or live paycheck to paycheck.

I would venture to say that the vast number of alums do not have the kind of money you allude to. Many give generously to Clemson and 'generously' is a relative term. Their love and concern for Clemson is as vital as it is immeasureable. Do we now line up people based on their monetary worth and listen to them in that order?

I am not naive and I know money talks. However, Clemson should make sure that the money's words don't drown out that of others. As far as calling someone a snowflake, that seems to be the cute term in vogue to label anyone who raises their voice about an issue. You have trivialized an issue that others do consider important.

You would be wise to remmber that snowflakes don't really disappear. They transform into a different force. Your obvious lack of even a basic respect for others is more telling about you than you may realize.
