GOP Vs American Chamber of Commerce

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/369333/us-chamber-commerce-vs-america-michelle-malkinhe National Review posted a piece that criticized the American Chamber of Commerce as being an
group that tries to find common ground with left-leaning groups. It stated that big business does not agree with the principles of free-market conservatism.

I know this place despires the American Chamber of Commerce, but it is interesting to see a major conservative publication actively oppose them.

Mike Huckabee Does Not Understand Public Health Policies

Here is another conservative Zinger from Mike Huckabee

“f the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it, let’s take that discussion all across America because women are far more than Democrats have made them to be.”

I think that Huckabee is stating that he does not want the government to promote a social policy that his religion considers to be immoral. In reality, Huckabee is failing to understand that he should not be extending remarks regarding policy that imposes religious values beyond his faith community. In his faith community, God tells people if they want to live a spiritually fulfilling life that they should follow God’s rule on sexual health. For a Christian, it is a akin to Islamic women wearing the hijab or not drinking alcohol. It is vital part of that faith’s community to follow the rules as place by that faith tradition to ensure that the person can fully developed a spiritual relationship from their faith community as they see understand God.

However, trying to impose that value system on a broader swath of society who does not follow your faith communities moral system or has no interest to do so does not make good public policy especially for health related issues. Contraception s not designed for people to have sexual liberation, but rather to prevent unnecessary pregnancies without resorting to abortion of convenience. One can argue that abortion of convenience is a conscious choice of individual and can be seen as very selfish and immoral decision, but argue for full contraception in order to prevent abortions of convenience.

Such a policy really lacks of proper critical analysis. If your real goal is prevent abortion of convenience, than one should fully support the idea of contraception as sound public policy. Even if you belong to Quiverful movement where women voluntary do not use birth control as expression of faith towards to God, you should still not apply your belief system on the rest of general society. Opposing abortion is okay with me especially if it is abortion of pure convenience (However, I strongly oppose any attempt GOP attempts to restrict unconditional access to abortion on under any condition).

I think this statement is long line of GOP leaders who fail to understand the fine line of what is considered to be moral principle in one’s faith tradition, but then try to apply it to a general society where your faith tradition’s spiritual values have little applications towards. If the GOP leaders want to win election, they should start making judgements based on public policy and reason instead of speaking from a very narrow reading of biblical texts.

More Proof That Chris Christie Is Unqualified For President

So Chris Christie decided to open his big mouth and spat this zinger as reported by nj.com

Holding up three fingers, Gov. Chris Christie wanted the crowd to listen a second time to a statistic about the number of “college ready” students in Camden.

“How bad has it been in Camden? How ‘bout this -- Last year, only three students graduated college ready,” Christie said during his Jan. 14 “State of the State” address. “I want you to listen to that again. In the entire public school system in Camden last year, only three students graduated college ready.”

The Republican governor’s claim refers to a statistic recently cited by Camden Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard in regard to students whose SAT scores met the “SAT College and Career Readiness Benchmark” developed by the College Board, which administers the standardized test.

That benchmark -- a combined score of 1550 -- indicates a 65 percent likelihood of achieving a B- average or higher during a student’s first year at a four-year college, which in turn is associated with a high likelihood of college success, according to the College Board. The highest possible score on the SAT is 2400

I call him a big fat liar.

Vets groups slam Obama administration's proposed VA disability filing rule

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON – For veterans seeking disability compensation, the application process is supposed to be so easy that a handwritten note on a napkin will initiate a claim or an appeal. A proposed rule from the Obama administration would change that, and veterans groups are sounding the alarm.

The Department of Veterans Affairs says the many ways that requests for disability compensation arrive actually hamper its ability to administer benefits, and they contribute to a claims backlog that has about 400,000 veterans waiting more than 125 days for a decision. At times, workers spend so much time trying to figuring out what's being claimed and trading letters with applicants that it's slowing down decisions for everyone.

The VA's solution: Require veterans to use a standard form when they file for disability compensation -- or appeal a decision, and throw in some incentives for those who use a computer.

The response to the proposed rule from the nation's major veterans groups?

"Draconian" and "heavy-handed," said the Veterans of Foreign Wars. "A seismic change" that will "poison" the disability claims process, said the American Legion. "The most serious, egregious attack on a veteran-friendly disability claim system in VA history," declared the law firm of Bergmann & Moore, which specializes in pursuing disability clai

High court case: abortion clinic protest-free zone

Source: Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) — Eleanor McCullen clutches a baby’s hat knit in pink and blue as she patrols a yellow semicircle painted on the sidewalk outside a Planned Parenthood health clinic on a frigid December morning with snow in the forecast.

The painted line marks 35 feet from the clinic’s entrance and that’s where the 77-year-old McCullen and all other abortion protesters and supporters must stay under a Massachusetts law that is being challenged at the U.S. Supreme Court as an unconstitutional infringement on free speech. Arguments are set for Wednesday.

Outside the line, McCullen and others are free to approach anyone with any message they wish. They risk arrest if they get closer to the door.

With her pleasant demeanor and grandmotherly mien, McCullen has become the new face of a decades-old fight between abortion opponents asserting their right to try to change the minds of women seeking abortions and abortion providers claiming that patients should be able to enter their facilities without being impeded or harassed.

Cops and Drugs

I like watching COPS, but one real concern that I experience while watching the marathon on Spike today is how much effort that Cops put into little finding small sizes of dope.

In two separate episodes, the cops made a huge deal of a little bag of coke or rock. Personally, if I were a cop, I could careless about dope unless it is the guy was the neighborhood "connect" and then I would totally go after him.

It seems when that cops search people, they make a real big deal about looking very small quantities of drugs and drug paraphernalia. In some ways, I just do not see a big need to put in cuffs unless the real purpose of arresting people is to place them into some mandatory diversion program in order for stop using illegal drugs.

I think that a lot of law enforcement at the street level are beholden to big money interests in prison-correction system that want continue funding for building jails and correction instead of treating people for drug offenses.

If people want to remain drug addicts and that creates potential for property and violent crime, then send off to jail for a short term. However, I just think it some form of invasion of privacy when cops search people excessively for just small amount of drugs.
