The second time in my 1793 posts...........

a post of mine has is listed in the "greatest threads" on DU's home page. I am surprised and humbled. I am humbled that so many people have read it, responded, recommended, etc.

Surprised that it was singled out.

Got a call from my Doctor's office today............

I am an unemployed, uninsured diabetic. I have not seen my Doctor in over a year. I have been keeping up with my medications (except for injections, the medicine is over $500 a month).

I kept getting letters from the Doctor's office saying that it had been x amount of time since he had seen me. I wrote back and explained my circumstances. I had a call back from the Diabetic patient coordinator. She understood the situation and gives me samples of injections medications the office receives.

I called in for prescription refills the other day. I had a phone call from the Doctor's assistant, who said he would refill it but he needs to see me. I said I have no insurance or employment, she could talk to the Diabetic Coordinator.

The Diabetic Coordinator called me today, she said she had talked to my Doctor, he understands the situation, he wants to see me and there will be no charge.

Now this is how patient care should be.

Marine Corps and Camp Lejeune water contamination......

Please read the post listed below. It will give USMC Vets information on a law that was passed last year & signed by President Obama that covers health care for certain conditions/illnesses if they were stationed at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between January 1, 1957 and December 31, 1987.

Camp Lejeune Water Contamination..........

I received a letter from the Marine Corps Today. A new law was signed by President Obama back in August, the law is "Honoring America's Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012".

This law requires that the VA provide health care for veterans who served no less than 30 days at Camp Lejeune between January 1, 1957 and December 31, 1987 at Camp Lejeune for the following conditions:

Bladder Cancer, Breast Cancer, Esophageal Cancer, Female infertility, Hepatic Steatosis, Kidney Cancer, Leukemia, Lung Cancer, Miscarriage, Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndromes, Neurobehavioral Effects, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Renal Toxicity and Scleroderma.

Support for health care costs may also be provided for family members for these conditions once Congress appropriates funds and new regulations are published.

Veterans who are eligible for care under this Act, regardless of current enrollment with the VA, will not be charged a co-payment for health care related to the listed illnesses or conditions, nor will a third party insurance company be billed for these services.

My Dad served 2 1/2 years at Camp Lejeune (he's now deceased). My older brother and I lived there for these 2 1/2 years, my younger brothers lived there 1 1/2 years and 1/2 year. I was affected by female infertility & we keep an eye on my brother who had a breast fibroadenoma removed a few years ago. This is a brother who was conceived at Lejeune.

Any Vets you know, who may have one of these illnesses/conditions and who may have served at Camp Lejeune, let them know about this.

Free library Kiosks

I read this article two days ago. Heidelberg is a community of about 1200 people. There are three standing libraries within a 5 and a 10 minute drive from the town. The township has however installed a kiosk at one of their parks that allows people to borrow a book and return it at their discretion.

I love this idea, especially for the summer when there will be a diversity of people at the parks, including kids who can continue reading during their school break.

Anything that gets to people to read is a great idea in my book (pun intended).
