MA Don't forget to Vote!

June 25, 2013

This is the date to circle on your calendar now. Go ahead and block off the weekend before that too (June 22 and June 23). Our victory in the Special Election will be dependent on our ability to mobilize every single volunteer we have and get them on the doors to knock and drag out every single identified supporter.

Scott Brown won in the 2010 Special Election by 109,425 votes. On that Election Day in January 2010, 110,000 of our Super Democrats (our VERY best voters) forgot to come out and vote. On June 25, 2013, we will replicate our GOTV efforts from November 2010 and November 2012 to hit the door of every supporter and make sure they are there at the polls to cast their vote in support of Ed Markey.

Today's NSA Brought to You By a Decade of Republican Fear-Mongering

Uh-huh. Yeah. Rewind several years to 2007 and 2008 when Congress and the Bush administration passed the Protect America Act, along with the FISA Amendments of 2008. The entire Republican establishment was lined up in jingoistic lockstep behind the Bush administration's efforts to eavesdrop without warrants and spent countless hours both scaring their listeners to death while shaming liberals and the Democratic Party over any and all resistance in codifying the administration's illegal covert wiretapping.

But as we've learned time and time again, selective amnesia doesn't seem to permeate the zero barrier between January 19, 2009 and January 20, 2009, so let's take a look at some history, shall we? Yep. Here goes...

Mitch McConnell: Citizens United Amendment Is An 'Absurd Proposal'

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) criticized a proposed constitutional amendment to eliminate corporate personhood rights on Friday, calling the idea "absurd."

The amendment, proposed by Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on Tuesday, would establish that corporations are not people with constitutional rights. This would overturn the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision, which holds that corporations have a First Amendment right to spend unlimited funds on political campaigns as long as that spending is independent from candidates and political parties.

Jeb Bush Gets 'F' On School Spending

Jeb Bush has repeatedly — and falsely — claimed that the United States spends “more per student than any country in the world.” Luxembourg, Norway and Switzerland all spend more than the U.S. on elementary and secondary education.

John Boehner's future as Speaker of the House? John Boehner worst Speaker of the House?

Wagner's fellow MSNBC hosts Chris Hayes and Melissa-Harris Perry joined in to discuss John Boehner's future as Speaker of the House and his lack of control over his caucus and whether he's going to take a hard turn to the right to get this bill passed, which is going to create a whole new set of headaches with getting the bill passed in the Senate.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, because as they discussed as well, this bill isn't one that they're going to allow to languish any more than they would a defense authorization bill. And it's unique because it's one of the few times we see the interests of those who have some pull in Washington, like these wealthy farmers, tied to those in poverty.

The author of this article agree with Hayes, who told the audience here just as he did on his own show tonight that this bill was so bad, he was glad to see Republicans kill it. Now the question, what do they end up trying to replace it with?

GOP congressman Trent Franks: It’s hard to get pregnant from rape (video)

What is wrong with these people? Pro-life Republican congressman Trent Franks from Arizona is apparently an expert on both rape and conception.

And all the ladies out there will be glad to know that Congressman Franks says you have little to worry about: It’s really hard to get pregnant from getting raped.
