David Brock Calls On CBS To Retract Faulty Benghazi Story

Following the revelation that a key "witness" featured in this week's CBS 60 Minutes report on Benghazi previously claimed that he never got near the besieged diplomatic compound on the night of the attacks, Media Matters chairman David Brock is calling on CBS to retract its story.

On October 27, CBS aired a report on the Benghazi attacks that featured the claims of a supposed eyewitness using the pseudonym "Morgan Jones." Today, the Washington Post revealed that Jones, whose real name is Dylan Davies, previously filed a report with his security contractor employer saying that he "could not get anywhere near" the compound the night of the attack.

The flawed CBS report has since been trumpeted by conservative media and Republican politicians.

In his letter to CBS executives, Brock writes that the story should be "immediately retracted and an independent investigative committee needs to probe all aspects of how the story was reported."

Oops, CBS '60 Minutes' Benghazi Source Is A Liar

That belated "60 Minutes" hit job on the Benghazi tragedy -- highly touted by Fox News, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and others on the right -- is now under attack over serious credibility issues.

"But in a written account that Jones, whose real name was confirmed as Dylan Davies by several officials who worked with him in Benghazi, provided to his employer three days after the attack, he told a different story of his experiences that night.

In Davies’s 21 / 2-page incident report to Blue Mountain, the Britain-based contractor hired by the State Department to handle perimeter security at the compound, he wrote that he spent most of that night at his Benghazi beach-side villa. Although he attempted to get to the compound, he wrote in the report, “we could not get anywhere near . . . as roadblocks had been set up.”

The Truth About Those Canceled Health Plans

I'm one of those people! Why would Obama make health insurance companies cancel my plan? Seems mean.

The fact is, some health insurance on the market today is just lousy. That's a big reason why even people who have insurance can go bankrupt when their medical bills start piling up.

Health insurance you bought for yourself before might have been (or seemed) perfectly okay, but there's a good chance it had big holes in it -- the kind people tend to only find out about when they incur expensive doctor and hospital bills. And if you have a pre-existing condition, or you're older, or you're a woman, you have been paying more for that insurance.

But not all the insurance plans being canceled are lousy. Some people really do like their plans, and they're losing them because of relatively small differences in new Affordable Care Act rules.

The law standardizes health insurance plans by mandating that they cover a basic set of benefits, including hospitalizations, prescription drugs and maternity care, that many insurance products on today's market don't. Obamacare also limits total annual out-of-pocket expenses to $6,350 for a single person, in order to protect people against going broke when they get sick.

Patricia Millett, Key Obama Nominee, Filibustered By Senate Republicans

The Senate voted 55-38 to advance D.C. Circuit Court nominee Patricia Millett. Democrats needed 60 votes to clear a procedural motion, which meant they needed at least five Republicans to join them. In the end, only two did: Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska). Three senators voted "present."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) vowed to revisit Millett's nomination "at some point in the very near future." He also left the door open to changing the Senate rules.

Republicans and conservative Democrats just voted to sell you out to Wall Street.

Republicans and conservative Democrats just voted to sell you out to Wall Street. In other words, it's Tuesday.

Today, the House passed the so-called Retail Investor Protection Act 254 to 166. 30 Democrats voted with 224 Republicans in favor. 165 Democrats--and one Republican--voted against it. Those following H.R. 2374 thought it would pass with wide bipartisan margins, so having 165 Democratic NAY's was better than expected. The 30 Democratic YEA's still need to be named and shamed, however.

First, let's begin with the important question: What is the Retail Investor Protection Act? The bill delays a new Department of Labor rule that would prevent financial advisers from stealing from your 401(K) plans or IRAs. Allowing financial advisers to rip you off is a great complement to that other plank in the Republican-Conservadem retirement insecurity platform, cutting Social Security.

W. Kamau Bell tells ‘blobfish-faced fool’ Ted Cruz to respect Trayvon’s mother

In the clip embedded below from “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell,” Bell sent a personal message to freshman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX): Stop talking.

He began by referring to Wednesday’s congressional testimony by Sybrina Fulton, mother of slain teenager Trayvon Martin. After Fulton explained that the “Stand Your Ground” law is a dangerous law that allows people of color to disproportionately be murdered by white defendants, Cruz addressed her.

“None of us in this hearing room were there that night,” said Cruz, “and we know that at the end of that confrontation, the teenager was dead.”

“It wasn’t ‘the teenager,’” said Bell. “His name was Trayvon Martin and you’re talking directly to his mother, so have some goddamn respect, you blobfish-faced fool!”

Poll: Virginia governor race a nailbiter

With less than a week until Election Day, Virginia gubernatorial hopeful Terry McAuliffe holds a slim lead over Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in a tightening race, according to a new poll on Wednesday.

McAuliffe leads Cuccinelli among likely voters 45 percent to 41 percent, with 9 percent for Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. The edge is within the poll’s margin of error.

Howard Dean Gives S.E. Cupp Taste Of Fact-Based Reality

STEPHANOPOULOS: Wait a minute the White House just said that they have to have about 1/3 of the people 2.7 million of the 7 million people have to be young people.

CUPP: That's what it means.

DEAN: No. That's not true actually. Because the reason that is framed as being true is everybody assumes that you can't do community rating without an individual mandate, and that's not true. And I know that because I did it 20 years ago. We did most of the stuff that's in Obamacare--

STEPHANOPOULOS: In Vermont.

DEAN: In Vermont and we also have almost every child under 18 has had health insurance in our state for 20 years. And we've had community rating, really tough community rating where you couldn't charge more than 20% above your base rate to anybody in the country, in the state. And you couldn't discriminate anybody for pre-existing conditions. We've had this for 20 years.

Rand Paul on "eugenics paranoia."

So, how is Paul helping Cuccinelli? Oh, you know, by heading on down to Liberty University and talking about the issues that are really important to Virginians, by which I mean "eugenics paranoia."

During a visit to the Christian school founded by Jerry Falwell, Paul looked to energize conservative supporters by warning that people who are short, overweight or less intelligent could be eliminated through abortion. With one week remaining, Cuccinelli is hoping the joint appearance with the U.S. senator from Kentucky will encourage the far-right flank of his party to abandon third-party libertarian spoiler Robert Sarvis.

Snip........

Nevertheless, Paul was undeterred:

"In your lifetime, much of your potential -- or lack thereof -- can be known simply by swabbing the inside of your cheek," Paul said to a packed sporting arena on Liberty's campus. "Are we prepared to select out the imperfect among us?"

Reagan Losing 241 at Beirut in 1983 Didn't Happen No More

October 23rd, 1983. Ronald Reagan was President of the United States.

What stood out then, at least on television, was the toll of 241 dead at Marine BLT Barracks at Beirut Airport. Yet on the 30th Anniversary last week, in 2013, nothing was done to commemorate those losses. Not a word on network news or the commentary shows. The total number of deaths from four truck bombs there was 398. And it was carried out to get revenge for months of the U.S. Navy shelling Arab villages.

Corporate media made no mention of the Beirut, Lebanon invasion -- despite that the CBS program 60 Minutes is taking time tonight to replay the Benghazi attack and street riot that killed 4 on September 11, 2012.

Snip.........

Lie about the dead, ye superpatriots. IOKIYAR.

And when Lebanon 1983 is mentioned, for such as resume material, the bombings are blamed on Hezbollah. That is beyond absurd. In 1983 there was no Hezbollah -- getting revenge with these bombings is what let the Revolutionary Guard bring in 1,500 picked troops and get Hezbollah up and running as an effective military force.
