And only fools will fall for that. I don't think our military or intelligence services are staffed

with fools, or the sycophants that Putin and Trump rely on to stroke their egos. The outcome of the war will be determined by the determination of Europe, America, India, and Japan to see through Putin's bullshit and act in the interests of all of us. We will all have to suck up some pain in terms of energy and food costs, but that will last only as long as Russians can put up with the pain of losing their sons, their jobs, and their self respect.

And there are x-ers and y-ers and z-ers and mill-ers who have voted for Trump, or not voted.

I agree with the Kiss fans vs the Dead fans point. Yes, there were many in our generation who were conservatives and voted for Nixon, Reagan, the two Bushes, and Trump. But the problem wasn't boomers or x-ers, or y-ers or any particular generation, but the people who voted for the Republican Party (or didn't vote). The Democrats have a large majority in the nation, but Democrats are known for being lazy voters. Sound familiar? Distrust of the system, and the knowledge that the game was crooked, discouraged as many in the boomer generation as the "unknown quantities" in subsequent generations (OK that was an algebra joke. I'm sorry. I said I was a boomer).

We disrupted the Democratic Chicago Convention to express our outrage about the Vietnam War, and the Democratic Party's major role in prosecuting that war. We? Well, not "me." I voted for Eugene McCarthy, a war hero, a liberal, and a powerful voice against the Vietnam War. Nixon won every single state except Massachusetts because he had announced that he had a "secret plan" to end the War. His secret plan was - "Run Away!" The fact is, the Democratic Party strongly supported the war (our president, LBJ, was running it). They National Guard shot some of us at Kent State. The FBI infiltrated anti-war groups kept files on them all. The FBI bugged Martin Luther King because he had made one or two mildly critical statements about the war. We watched John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Martin L. King and Malcolm-X get gunned down by "whoever."

A lot of us boomers were good people: idealistic, activist, and well-educated. Every generation has a conservative element, a liberal one, and many in the middle who are hard to motivate. Our enemy, is MAGAs, not a particular generation. I think a lot of boomers learned something from our own history, and it has made us hyper-aware of the importance of engaging in the political system, no matter how stressful that might be. That means voting, at least. We have re-engaged and are doing what we can to fix the country before it's too late. Sorry for the rant.

Typical right wing bullshit. They only show the three most heavily redacted pages of the

affidavit, which contained names of witnesses who need to be protected from Trump and his violent minions. The vast majority of the document was very lightly redacted, if at all. Every legal reason for the search, and the long history of repeated attempts to persuade Trump to voluntarily hand over the materials were presented in plain view for all to see.

We've exercised restraint. Now we know the time is past.

Trump and his fellow traitors need to be locked up where they can do no more harm.

We need to keep on investigating and following up the obvious signs of criminal behavior.

Complacency is our enemy. The rule of law is our friend.

Quite a few liberals have a fairly pessimistic view of events. Probably based on the difficulties we

have had over the years. It's not a constructive point of view. When we win, we need to keep on pushing. The fight i never over.

I agree. Sure, we need to tout the great accomplishments if this administration. But a more powerful

message, and a more important one in the long run, is the we are in an existential fight for our democracy against election deniers, election riggers, voting suppressors, misinformationists (liars), conspiracy theorists, racists, christo-fascist fundamentalists, slimers, book burners, hypocrites, cultists, anti-immigration xenophobes [pause while I catch my breath] incompetents, anti-science know-nothings, ignorant, anti-constitutional, unpatriotic, violent, LGBTQ-bashing fanatics.

Theocrats like Alito mean something entirely different from what the "Founders" has in mind when

they wrote and signed the Constitution. Alito and his ilk want their fundamentalist version of Christianity to be the state religion. Religious liberty means no such thing. It means the right to practice any religion you like as long as it does not infringe on the rights of other people.

Well said. I don't know what went on behind the scene, but suddenly Manchin makes a deal,

then McConnell condemns it, and now they've passed major legislation on chip manufacturing, science education, research, and a lot more.

In a joint statement, Manchin and Schumer said: “The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 will make a historic down payment on deficit reduction to fight inflation, invest in domestic energy production and manufacturing, and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40% by 2030.”

According to a policy brief, the bill will generate $739bn through a 15% corporate minimum tax, prescription drug savings and other means. It excludes surtaxes on people making at least $10m a year, ending Democrats’ push to make the wealthiest Americans pay more taxes.

The proposal would invest $396bn in energy security and fighting climate change, and $64bn to bolster healthcare. Manchin also indicated that provisions to reform the permitting process for energy infrastructure, including gas pipelines, would be included in the deal.

Brilliant! I have never heard a better argument against the NRA's misreading of the 2nd

Amendment. We need to hear more about the absolute unconstitutionality of the "guns rights" movement, which makes a totally bogus interpretation of the Constitution to defend the NRA's absurd contention that we need to arm every citizen to fight our own government. The clause regarding "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State" was designed to allow the creation of militias to DEFEND the U.S. government against insurrection.
