Wait Wut
Wait Wut's JournalI'm 'brainwashing' a 12 year old.
At least, that's what his mother, my BFF, says.
I've mentioned before that she is a Republican. Moderate, but still... One of her sons asked me to marry him when he was 8 (I was 44, so it was quite controversial. I was also engaged. ). He friended me on FB a couple of years ago and has been following me ever since. The BFF said he reads every single thing I post and then goes on to read all the links, etc. Then, he starts doing his own research.
She said they'll be having a normal conversation at dinner when someone will mention something that sets him off. He jumps on his soapbox and gives a political smackdown to everyone at the table. She said I've brainwashed her son into becoming a Junior Liberal.
He posts some really interesting things, himself. Most of it having to do with social justice and bullying. He's an incredibly smart kid and cute as hell.
I told my bestie that she's in deep shit. She has 6 kids ranging in age from 23 to 8. 4 of those 6 are either Liberals or leaning in that direction. I encourage them as much as possible.
I think my eyeballs are going to fall out.
Or explode.
Besides working all day (I'm a graphic artist), I'm doing some freelance (emphasis on 'free') for a local charity. An 84 page booklet with lots of crappy scans that I have to clean up. Add to that the time I spend reading DU and other worthy sites, FB and gaming...
...my eyes are killing me. My eye doc would be very disappointed in me. They're all bloodshot and puffy. I look stoned out of my mind.
I may have to take a break tonite.
Why I don't ignore anyone here.
Over the last few weeks, 3 long-time DUers that are pros at getting on my nerves and would have been candidates for ignore have given me good reason to never ignore anyone.
That was a horribly written sentence. I have another headache and my eyes hurt. I don't wanna hafta rewrite it.
You just never know when someone will come through with a deep thought, compassionate post or just plain good humor. So for everyone.
YAY!!! The girls are getting together!
My two BFFs and I have been trying to get together for months! FINALLY, we all have Sunday open so we're watching the Bears/Steelers game! WOOT!!!
One of the girls is a Steelers fan (I still love her) and I'm a Bears fan (to DEATH!). The third is a Chargers fan (my 3rd string team). We're trying to find her a ref shirt to wear. We all take football seriously, so we may need the ref to step in.
Yes, the boys are allowed, but they have to be quiet during the game. Seriously. They're all musicians and they'll spend the whole nite gossiping about other musicians.
I'm so freakin' excited! I'm making roasted poppers and spinach dip.
GO BEARS!!!!
EDIT: Shittalking has already commenced. We may need a new ref. She's enjoying her neutrality way too much and has taken on the task of insulting both of us.
I think my feelings are hurt.
Or, maybe I'm just frustrated. I have a hard time labeling emotions.

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of Editorial or Sumthin' I was talking about. It's refreshing, enlightening, humanizing, and gives a sense of community.
I'm sad. I want more stuff like this from you guys. As it is, you're sort of like ghosts, except here in AtA. Here, you're more like a grade school teacher.
But, seriously (sorta), DU could use more of this, I think.
The Greater Kansas City Japan Festival...really exists.
My son and DIL moved to KCMO about a month ago. My DIL is Okinawan/Japanese and has had a difficult time adjusting. She found a job in housekeeping at a Hotel, but they're treating her like shit. My son told me about a Japan Fest next month and I figured it was probably just a small affair with maybe a few vendors, etc. It's actually pretty impressive! They're both really looking forward to it. We're hoping that she'll be able to network a bit and maybe find a better job, or at least feel less isolated.
Otherwise, Mom-in-Law is going to have to fly to KCMO and kick some hotel management ass. My DIL is way too kind and works way too freakin' hard to be treated like a second-class citizen.
Funnyish side-note: I asked my son if KCMO had a large Japanese population and he said, "Well, I've only seen one. I'm married to her."
I'm actually pretty jealous. 'Culture' in the town I live in has two variants; cowboy and Native American. The latter is only acceptable on the reservations. Last weekend they went to Irish Fest.
