DonViejo's JournalJudges Turn Back Claims by Trump In Six States
December 5, 2020 at 8:41 am EST By Taegan Goddard
President Trump and his allies faced a crush of defeats in post-election litigation Friday, a further sign of their ongoing failure to overturn President-elect Joe Bidens victory through the courts and to gain traction through baseless claims of widespread fraud, the Washington Post reports.
Judges ruled decisively that Trumps side has not proved the election was fraudulent, with some offering painstaking analyses of why such claims lack merit and pointed opinions about the risks the legal claims pose to American democracy.
Wrote Justice Brian Hagedorn of the Wisconsin Supreme Court: The relief being sought by the petitioners is the most dramatic invocation of judicial power I have ever seen.

Clyburn flexes muscle on DNC pick
With support from the South Carolina congressman and other top Democrats, Jaime Harrison is the frontrunner for the party chairmanship.
By HOLLY OTTERBEIN

Rep. Jim Clyburn, one of President-elect Joe Bidens most influential allies, is pushing hard for Jaime Harrison to be the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
The House majority whip has spent the last few weeks publicly and privately advocating for Harrison, and has even spoken to Biden about the DNC chair position, an aide to the congressman told POLITICO.
With Clyburns backing and support from several state party chairs, Harrison a former South Carolina party chairman himself is inching closer toward becoming the next leader of the national party.
Im sure its his for the asking, said James Zogby, a DNC member who previously served on the partys Unity Reform Commission. Hes been a state chair. He knows what its like. He knows the other state chairs. They are the heart and soul of the party."

Just 25 congressional Republicans acknowledge Biden's win, Washington Post survey finds
By Paul Kane and Scott Clement
Dec. 5, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. EST
Just 25 congressional Republicans acknowledge Joe Bidens win over President Trump a month after the former vice presidents clear victory of more than 7 million votes nationally and a convincing electoral-vote margin that exactly matched Trumps 2016 tally.
Two Republicans consider Trump the winner despite all evidence showing otherwise. And another 222 GOP members of the House and Senate nearly 90 percent of all Republicans serving in Congress will simply not say who won the election.
Those are the findings of a Washington Post survey of all 249 Republicans in the House and Senate that began the morning after Trump posted a 46-minute video Wednesday evening in which he wrongly claimed he had defeated Biden and leveled wild and unsubstantiated allegations of corrupt forces who stole the outcome from the sitting president.
A chart shows how Republicans answered three questions in a survey about President-elect Joe Biden's election victory and President Trump's false claims of victory.
A team of 25 Post reporters contacted aides for every Republican by email and phone asking three basic questions who won the presidential contest, do you support or oppose Trumps continuing efforts to claim victory and if Biden wins a majority in the electoral college, will you accept him as the legitimately elected president and also researched public statements made by the GOP lawmakers in recent weeks to determine their stance on Bidens win.

CNNs Jake Tapper Praises Biden and Torpedoes Trump Over Interviews: No Rapid-Fire Falsehoods, No Attacks, More Substance
By Tommy ChristopherDec 4th, 2020, 9:48 am
CNN anchor Jake Tapper contrasted his interview with President-elect Joe Biden and those he has conducted with outgoing President Donald Trump, noting that unlike Biden, Trump would tell a high volume of falsehoods, frequently attack interviewers, and doesnt really know what hes talking about on substantive issues.
On Friday mornings edition of New Day, co-anchors John Berman and Alisyn Camerota quizzed Tapper about his recent interview with President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, their first joint interview since winning the White House.
Camerota asked Tapper to compare the experience with that of interviewing Trump, noting that to interview Trump, you really had to be up on everything because it was an unpredictable experience and you had to make sure that you held his feet to the fire if he was going to make some sort of claim that you knew not to be true.
Tapper noted that outgoing President Trump a designation Tapper used throughout the segment hasnt given CNN an interview since he became president. So I dont know what its like to interview President Trump, I know what its like to interview candidate Trump.

Trump ignores facts with claim of improper 'vote dumps'
In lawsuits, tweets and a 46-minute taped diatribe, the president has promoted a false narrative about vote counting in several states.
Dec. 4, 2020, 9:13 AM EST
By Pete Williams
WASHINGTON At 3:42 on the morning after Election Day, President Donald Trump's lead in Wisconsin was suddenly eroded by a spike in the number of votes for President-elect Joe Biden.
The president cited the Biden jump during a taped White House speech distributed Wednesday as evidence of fraud. "And to this day, everyone's trying to figure out, where did it come from?"
In fact, the change has long since been explained. The votes came from mail ballots cast in Milwaukee and 38 other municipalities that were counted in a central location and reported all at once. State officials fully expected to see the sudden change.
Jim Steineke, the Republican leader in the state assembly, said it was no surprise. "We knew exactly how many were out there the entire day. Them being reported late is NOT an indication of fraud," he wrote on Facebook when claims first surfaced that something had gone wrong.

Thanksgiving Travel Barely Decreased Despite Pandemic
December 4, 2020 at 9:10 am EST By Taegan Goddard
Americans couldnt resist the urge to gather for Thanksgiving, driving only slightly less than a year ago and largely ignoring the pleas of public health experts, who begged them to forgo holiday travel to help contain the coronavirus pandemic, data from roadways and airports shows, the AP reports.
The nations unwillingness to tamp down on travel offered a warning in advance of Christmas and New Years as virus deaths and hospitalizations hit new highs a week after Thanksgiving. U.S. deaths from the outbreak eclipsed 3,100 on Thursday, obliterating the single-day record set last spring.

Fact Check: Video From Georgia Does NOT Show Suitcases Filled With Ballots Suspiciously Pulled From Under A Table; Poll Watchers Were NOT Told To Leave
Dec 3, 2020 by: Hallie Golden
Does security camera video show a Fulton County, Georgia, election supervisor suspiciously pulling suitcases filled with ballots from under a table after telling poll workers to leave the room? And did that election official continue to illegally count ballots without required monitors in a manner that calls into question Joe Biden's narrow win over Donald Trump in Georgia? No, those claim are not true: Two high-level officials with the Georgia secretary of state's office and a state elections board monitor each told Lead Stories that their investigations revealed nothing suspicious in the video. The officials said the ballots seen in the video were in regular ballot containers -- not suitcases -- and they had been removed from their envelopes and processed while news media and election observers for the Republican Party and Trump campaign were present. The media and party observers were never told to leave because counting was over for the night, but they apparently followed workers who left once their job of opening envelopes was completed, the chief investigator for the secretary of state told Lead Stories. The observers were free to return at anytime, she said. Georgia law allows observers, but does not require them to be there for ballots to be counted, she said.
The claims made at a Georgia state senate hearing by a Trump lawyer appeared in a video posted on YouTube on December 3, 2020, BY Trump's campaign titled "Video from GA shows suitcases filled with ballots pulled from under a table AFTER poll workers left" (archived here). The video description read:

Red State Budgets Hurt More by Pandemic
December 4, 2020 at 8:41 am EST By Taegan Goddard
The coronavirus pandemic has inflicted an economic battering on state and local governments, shrinking tax receipts by hundreds of billions of dollars. Now devastating budget cuts loom, threatening to cripple public services and pare work forces far beyond the 1.3 million jobs lost in eight months, the New York Times reports.
Governors, mayors and county executives have pleaded for federal aid before the end of the year. Congressional Republicans have scorned such assistance, with the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, calling it a blue-state bailout.'
But it turns out this budget crisis is colorblind. Six of the seven states that are expected to suffer the biggest revenue declines over the next two years are red states led by Republican governors and won by President Trump this year.

Trump Pentagon nominee spreads debunked conspiracies and tweets suggesting Trump declare martial law
By Nathan McDermott, Andrew Kaczynski and Em Steck, CNN
Updated 8:02 AM ET, Fri December 4, 2020
(CNN) - President Donald Trump's nominee to become a senior Pentagon official spread debunked conspiracies on Twitter that called Trump's election loss to Joe Biden a "coup" attempt and shared tweets that suggest Trump should declare martial law.
Scott O'Grady, a former fighter pilot and Trump loyalist, repeatedly retweeted tweets that falsely stated Trump won the election in "landslide fashion" and that millions of votes were stolen from the President.
On November 25, O'Grady retweeted a tweet that said, "Trump won & Biden & his Comrades will now attempt a coup," next to a photoshopped image of Biden beside Xi Jinping, the President of China.
On December 2, he retweeted an account that shared an article that said former national security adviser Michael Flynn had shared a petition that called for martial law. He then retweeted the same account which suggested that Trump should declare martial law.
