Jonah Goldberg Calls Out Fox News Opinion Side During Fox Appearance: 'Perpetuated Lies' About the Election

On Fox News’ MediaBuzz Sunday, The Dispatch editor in chief Jonah Goldberg briefly called out some of the rhetoric from Fox News opinion hosts about the 2020 election during a segment on media bias.
Howard Kurtz opened the segment talking about the backlash at Politico — both internal and external — over Ben Shapiro writing Politico’s Playbook newsletter. He asked Goldberg why Politico staffers are “still upset two weeks later” about it.
Goldberg said he thinks it’s generational, where “younger liberals, and, I have to say, a lot of younger conservatives are pretty intolerant of dissenting points of view.”
“There are a lot of people who live in bubbles on both sides of the aisle these days,” Goldberg said. “The last thing they want to do is have their bubble punctured from within, and so they have tantrums.”

When asked about Republican control of the House in 1994, I answered that as a gay, left-handed Jew I was used to being in the minority. I now have an addition to that list: I believe the outcome of Donald Trump’s malign, ridiculous assault on the election results is evidence not of the fragility of our democracy but of its durability.
To the charge that I am minimizing the seriousness of the parade of horribles that culminated in the “Trumpling” of the venue where the voting math was stored, my response is that it's precisely the depths to which Trump and his minions plunged which convince me that the pro-democratic forces in our country are strong today and will get stronger.
Most important is that the increasingly desperate schemes of the Trump-Giuliani-Hawley-Cruz-QAnon alliance to subvert democracy never came close to succeeding.
From the unbroken string of legal defeats inflicted on them by Trump- and non-Trump-appointed judges alike, through the universally failed efforts to strongarm Republican state officials to lie about the election’s results, to the unsuccessful pressure on Republican state legislative leaders to usurp Constitutional powers, and ending with the spectacularly counterproductive effort to prevent Congress from registering the results, at no point did this contemporary version of “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight” pose any real threat to

A grocery store heiress provided some three-fifths of the funding for then-President Donald Trump‘s so-called “Stop the Steal” rally immediately preceding the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol Complex, according to multiple media reports.
According to an exposé by the Wall Street Journal‘s Shalini Ramachandran, Alexandra Berzon and Rebecca Ballhaus released on Saturday, the conspiracy theory-fueled event came together, in large financial part, under the tutelage of Austin, Texas-based fake news purveyor Alex Jones. The nation’s preeminent conspiracy theorist reportedly then connected with Publix grocery store heiress Julie Jenkins Fancelli, who spent $300,000 on organizing the speeches intended to somehow overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. The total cost of the fateful rally was some $500,000.

In the weeks since the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, at least 13 states have taken up legislation to crack down on protests. The push, critics say, is a revival of broader anti-protest efforts that emerged amid the Black Lives Matter demonstrations that rocked the country in the summer.
Lawmakers in Florida, Indiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Arizona, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington filed bills that critics claim are using the violence at the Capitol to target social justice protests more broadly. Many of the bills are similar or identical to ones introduced in those states last year.
"These legislations came about as a result to push us over the summer," said Emmanuel Cannady, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter South Bend, Indiana. "There's a cloaking that's happening right now."
Since 2016, 15 states have enacted legislation to limit protests, according to the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law, which tracks related state and federal legislation. A total of 17 states have pending legislation aimed at regulating demonstrations.

WASHINGTON – Associate Justice Samuel Alito, an anchor of conservative thought on the Supreme Court, said he wasn't surprised by the backlash he received recently following a gloves-off speech in which he asserted coronavirus restrictions had created a "constitutional stress test" by placing unprecedented limits on individual freedom.
Responding to a question about the fracas from USA TODAY, the court's fourth-most senior justice defended the parts of the Nov. 12 speech to the Federalist Society that drew the most controversy, noting they had come directly from several of his recent opinions – in some cases with nearly identical language.
"Virtually every substantive point in the Federalist Society speech was taken from one of my published opinions or an opinion I joined," Alito, who on Sunday marks his 15-year anniversary on the high court, said in a statement.
But Alito, who warned during the November speech that his remarks might be "twisted," also indicated he wasn't fazed or particularly startled by the blowback.

Donald Trump may have left the White House, but the party he hijacked appears to remain under his spell and that of the bizarre cult that worships him.

WASHINGTON ― They raised the scaffolding up the side of the Capitol, tore down the flag of the United States and, to cheers from their fellow rioters below, hoisted in its place the flag of their hero, Donald Trump.
As Republicans regroup following the loss of the White House and both chambers of Congress in just two years, that single image from Jan. 6 may best illustrate their fundamental problem: A significant percentage of their voting base remains more loyal to the former president personally than the party as a whole, to the point where some of those Trump supporters participated in a violent mob attack on the seat of government to intimidate Congress into keeping him in power even though he lost reelection resoundingly to Democrat Joe Biden.
“Perfect act of a treasonous cult. Their allegiance is to Donald Trump, not the United States of America,” said former GOP Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois, who unsuccessfully ran against Trump for the party’s 2020 nomination.
HuffPost video of the arrival of rioters on the second floor of the Senate shows that the first to reach the landing was wearing a shirt featuring the logo of QAnon, the bizarre cult built around the trappings of evangelical Christianity and featuring Trump himself as a God-sent messiah.
