And while I'm at it...

If President Obama is always the smartest man in the room - which he IS - then Krugman runs a close second.

You GOP trolls can kiss Greenspan butt all you want. He was and probably still is a Randian, if he's not yet choked on his own bile.

Sez Who It's Not Who We Are? You're Offering Up A False Choice

Paul Krugman rocks!

Maybe I should ask everyone, "Are you with Manny or with God?" How'd you like that reframe?

Does anyone know

a way for me to uncover at least the identity of the poster whose replies to me got busted? Or if you saw them beforehand, I'd appreciate a DU mail with the particulars including content. The only reason I want to know is to be aware of who not to let on the My People list when that's available. I don't care if the person self-deleted or not, and I certainly don't plan to follow up in any way. I just want to know who it was.

Just once in my life

I took out a restraining order on a man who was stalking me and making verbal threats. Wanna know how far away from me the judge said he had to stay? TWO FREAKIN' FEET! The only way I got rid of the guy was to ask a certain friend of mine to pay him a little visit and quietly remind him of his manners. Of course that was back in the '80's but I know things haven't really gotten much better. You're right of course, severe penalties need to be in place and enforced. And I'd done nothing to attract this stalker's attention except exist.

And they wonder why people sometimes have to take extreme measures to protect themselves! Although a well-trained guard dog is my preference, I've gotten rid of a few pests who insisted on my company by offering to introduce them to my twin brothers Smith and Wesson. Most of these guys are cowards anyway; they're after what they imagine as low-hanging fruit.

Ladies, if you've done everything else possible and you don't have young children to worry about, keeping a can of wasp spray (longer reach than pepper spray) or even bear spray handy offers another measure of safety. And don't tell me I'm 'living in fear' either. I sleep quite well, thank you, even after losing my Chows almost a year ago. The 2 little dogs are such yappers that nobody can surprise me, and the few bad guys we have in this flyspeck town where I retired already know me well enough not to try anything. There are a couple of decent single guys here who'd like to hang out with me but both are Republicans and one's afraid of his mommy.

That's shocking!

What happened to rules about cruel and unusual punishment? What do they do when children are involved? Talk about kicking people when they're down! This is NOT going to win officials any friends among the poor and dispossessed, who might be weak individually but can wreck almighty havoc in concentrated rage.

I never heard of such a thing, and it sickens and saddens me.

Good to know

But I'd caution against its use on Chows, especially older ones, who are notoriously reactive to many things. If there's a potential reaction to the vaccine, they'd be better off taking their chances. If you're in an extremely rural area, good luck finding a vet quick enough anyway.

In AZ I paid good $ to have people catch king snakes to keep the rattlers away. Get enough of those babies crawling around and you'll have neither rodents nor king snakes. Actually, they can keep away unwanted bi-pedal visitors too. Once I figured that out and even posted a sign at the end of my drive, people would telephone me to come after their captures but wouldn't bring them to me on a bet. I lived safely at the end of a 5-mile dirt road for 8 years, all 'alone' except for the dogs and horses and snakes etc and nobody ever bothered me a bit. Go figure. Fourteen years much the same in CA, same result.

Which reminds me, as an aside, that friends once urged me to take a camping trip with them to get away from it all. They lived in town. I asked them why I needed to go look at somebody else's trees. Don't worry, they took it well.

Thanks for the link

I'll visit ASAP - but right now I have to go feed those two pocket rockets. The people who brought Brigid to the rescue folks in Indiana said she was a stray, and somewhere along the line somebody declared her a boxer/rat terrier mix - but she's at least pet grade pure JRT from her looks. On arrival she stood 8 or 9" at the shoulder and weighed less than 4 lbs; I didn't expect her to last the night. But she's really thriving now. Luckily she and Molly Maguire love each other to pieces. Taking in a second rescue for Molly's playmate turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. Each fell in instant love with the other.

And I live near quite a few

In the MidWest boonies. They've made it plain enough that their first targets in the race war they anticipate and try to provoke will be whites who stood against them. I make it quite clear right back that if they ever try any such foolishness (which privately I figure they will someday), then they will find out what federal power can do.

A few weeks ago I sent in another of my usual polite letters to the editor of our local weekly (wide regional circulation) with my standard pro-Democrat stance on things, and the next week there was a reply from another reader whose screech could be heard around the world. Besides calling everything out of a Democrat's mouth untrue, he bellowed that we were "LYING HYENAS OF SOCIALISM!" (My knees really shook at that one.) Oh, and we're all lazy and greedy too, just in case you didn't know.

Charlie Rose

had a guest last night who was former CIA, and his opinion was that the bombing had just as much Columbine in it as jihad, because neither of the two brothers had a deep intellectual understanding of history and background. They were alienated young men who seized upon jihad as a handy excuse to wreak the havoc they wanted to inflict just for its own sake. Whereas the older al Qaeda captives were soaked to the bone in ideology and would never repent of their evil, Charlie's guest believes the youngest brother this time probably will eventually. Not that it will do him much good on earth, because he's probably going to get the death penalty.

Gotta love the Castro brothers.

I just want to pinch their cheeks, God bless 'em. The Browning of America? I look forward to it with those two to take on Cruz and Rubio.

About IrishAyes

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!
