when my clothing was emblazoned with progressive symbols or plain messages. But sometimes I'd be so plainly dressed that it kind of amazed me when it still happened. Probably had something to do with the fact that I'm a 5' tall female, but I'd see lots of other little old ladies get completely ignored. Of course it might've been partly because they were clutching their purses fearfully, while I looked around me in delight and wonder. I couldn't be inscrutable if my life depended on it. Which I blame on being Irish, of course.
For me it would depend
mostly on the individual situation. You realize that the Catholics, Anglicans, and Lutherans have gradually been growing closer together. If a child or young relative of mine got caught up in fundamentalism, I'd be far more worried because I've seen and heard too many of those people preach exclusivity - that anyone outside their particular fold is doomed to hell everlasting. Was a time when most churches seemed to hold that belief, but the times they are a'changin'; or should be at least. Some of their 'prosperity pastors' aren't fit to tie Pope Francis' shoes, but plenty of them will continue to call him the Anti-Christ just as they have all previous Popes. Apparently the hard-shells believe in multiple Anti-Christs since they love to fling that charge at anyone to the left of Lyndon Larouche.
As to the church you've found to your liking, congratulations. I hope they're a good safe place that doesn't teach any of that foolishness.
Partly because I grew up in a frequently changing, multicultural setting (army brat, later career officer's wife for many years), I enjoy new settings and ways more than some people do. As for Catholicism, I love everything from the old Latin Mass to the charismatic congregations, which can really rock your socks off.
As an old fogey myself,
There are times when 'the youth of today' make me want to shut my eyes and guard my eardrums.
Most of the time, though, I'm rather partial to them. Not only worldwide, but even locally, here in this little blood-red RW enclave where I retired. I could tell you horror stories about the adults, but except for one or two occasions, the kids have never been anything but sweet and precious to me. Even the couple who weren't were just being garden variety snots, nothing really having to do with me.
Sometimes I really wish I could visit a big college town again. Even in my later years, for some reason a lot of kids would high-five me on the street, total strangers that we were. I've always suspected they realize on some level that I like them.
Well, I do.

But I seriously doubt at least the EWTN people realized what they were showing. Filmmakers are sometimes a little more perceptive. Sometimes.

that Archbishop Romero would've made a fine Pope. However, he's made an even finer martyr to the cause.

Besides, when people argue that same-sex marriage (or relations) is against natural law, they don't know jack about natural law! Or at least the frequent variations we behold. Dolphins, porpoises, and sea gulls spring to mind, and the list is endless. Also, would they say rape is fine because it happens in the lower animal kingdom? Because it does! Again, certain larger sea creatures, and on land, the rhino in particular.
Taking 'natural' law as a last stand is a steep, slippery slope for those uneducated in the matter. The classic worst possible scenario being the black widow spider.
What a shame.
The liturgy IS about Christ, but what good does that do when we don't follow Christ's teachings, especially regarding the poor? It's as if Burke thinks the symbolism is more important than the deed. Not so!
I've been following this with great interest.
There was a man interviewed on some morning show or other who had left the priesthood because he felt so unwelcome, but he was very happy to hear the new tone even if it didn't change formal doctrine. Pope Francis sets a good example when he says, "Who am I to judge?" Even as a straight person myself, it has always grieved me to see what I think are the majority of people confusing homosexuality with pedophilia. Medical literature seems to suggest that most pedophiles are straight rather than gay. But the willfully ignorant prefer to lump them altogether; I guess so it makes a handier target for hate.
