IrishAyes's JournalSo enjoy!
While I'm not exactly a pantheist, I come a little too close to it to suit most of the Roman Catholic church; and I'm extra fond of the Unitarian Universalists. They're a good group for people who can't abide some of the strife inherent in other denominations. I can say that I never met a nicer (or more intelligent) bunch of people than Unitarians. They'd certainly be more accepting of my Native American animist leanings, and if there were such a congregation anywhere around here, that's probably where I'd go. But there isn't so I can't.
In fact, this tiny flyspeck town - which does have an appropriately sized Catholic mission - is so ultraconservative that I wouldn't stay except it's the only place I could afford a really nice house to restore. Now I've got 7+ years invested here, and if my financial situation changed overnight I'd probably hang on anyway. Miraculously enough, I've actually made a few real friends here, and I couldn't abide the thought of making the others happy by leaving.
See, that's one thing I didn't expect in a small town because I'd never lived in one before. As a military brat and later wife, I roamed the world and learned to revel in its diversity. Apparently around here that's some kind of crime. Also outbidding a local for the house and then hanging on okay over 3 years before my SS kicked in made me suspect in more ways than I care to count. I knew there would need to be a mutual adjustment, some culture shock and all; but I vastly underestimated the viciousness I'd encounter and I equally overestimated my lifelong ability to survive and thrive anywhere I chose to settle.
The UPSIDE to all that has been a deeper appreciation of the nice people I do know. I think it's beyond me now to take any of them for granted, whereas while on the move I was less inclined to let anyone embed themselves in my heart. So it all turns out for the good, one way or another if you let it. The Irish are well known for being gregarious and convivial - but that only goes so far. Dig really deep into most of us and you'll run into a brick wall very few ever penetrate.
Please forgive my running on. This little town came perilously close to proving my Waterloo, so I give it a lot of thought. And all too often I tend to think aloud on paper, electronic or otherwise. Helps me see and think more clearly. I also tend to hope that some other wanderer in search of peace and quiet for the soul will learn not to look toward Mayberry for it, because he's very likely to wake up and find himself in Peyton Place instead.
I've Never Understood
... why and how the GOP has gotten away with this illegal gerrymandering. Wasn't anyone watching the store?
Bless Your Heart
Yes, there are vicious sickos in this world. I'm glad you and your husband care enough to try and make it better. Anyone who'd hurt an innocent animal or person must be a sociopath. One neighbor I had used to reach over the fence to rile up my chows, then he'd call his police chief buddy and try to get me fined. That is, until I went to the city council meeting and raised hell for sure about it.
But I'm very glad your furkids are okay now. Try not to worry too much, but for awhile it might be best not to let them outdoors alone if you can manage. Know that a lot of people stand with you and wish you the best.
If there's any way you can manage, try to get your dogs poison trained. I trained mine that way, and they wouldn't touch a steak if they found it anywhere but their indoor food dish.
Plenty of that to go around
Did you know he convinced his followers to finance a tv station for 'the lord's work', then turned around and sold it and pocketed the money? But those same people keep sending him more money, convinced they can buy themselves a cushy spot in the afterlife. It has nothing to do with worshipping Jesus and everything to do with their future status. They're in for a rude awakening some day.
Yes/No
He's dead because he destroyed his soul; he just hasn't fallen over yet. When that happens, I expect hell to explode.
Be careful
Those holes might be evidence of demons trying to escape. Or get in. I never could straighten out which. Just listen to ol' Pat and do exactly as he says about everything; then you'll be safe.
That's rich!
A little salty for my generation, perhaps, but still funny as hell. I agree. Sometimes I also wonder if I wasn't born a few years too soon. You guys have fun.
We have a public clothes closet where I retired, and everything's only 10 cents! And I don't mind if the original owner of the clothes dropped dead in them or if some rich lady recognizes her sweater on me. My annual clothes budget for outerwear (I only buy new scanties) probably runs less than $5, so I have plenty left over for more important things in life like books and music and feeding my dog.
Hey, can I have that fur coat when you're through with it?
Thanks
Make mine a Guiness.
BTW, I'm not really all that mean. Some people just inspire me. That lady had it coming, in spades, and she committed the mortal sin of waking me from a nap. I also confess to a fondness for the grand gesture.
But I do prefer cooler climes. Why don't we meat in heaven instead?
Who, me?
Older lady? Sweet grandmother type? I'm innocent, I tell you, innocent and pure as New York snow! It wasn't me!
