"Over 8 terms in the House, Jordan has not been the lead sponsor of a single bill that became law"

Over eight terms in the House, Mr. Jordan, who served for a decade in Ohio’s Statehouse before winning election to Congress, has not been the lead sponsor of a single bill that became law, earning him a perennial ranking from the Center for Effective Lawmaking as among the least effective members of Congress. (Mr. Jordan’s aides argue he influences bills in committee without putting his name on them.)

Mr. Jordan is also the chairman of a powerful new subcommittee created at the insistence of right-wing Republicans to scrutinize what they call the “weaponization” of government against conservatives, which has yet to produce any new bombshell revelations. That is despite weeks of investigation, a budget of nearly $20 million and scores of staff aides working to uncover wrongdoing.

But he measures success in other ways. No single member of Congress has done more to push House Republicans to the right, forcing more mainstream and establishment figures in the party to cede ground to the archconservative wing.

He has reserved his most ruthless tactics for Democrats, fighting them at every turn as they pursued investigations of Mr. Trump. These days, his hearings include a level of partisanship and hostility that is notable even by today’s hyper-polarized standards.

MSNBC celebrates McConnell's return by not challenging his Biden slam

At the very end of Katy Tur's show, Garrett Haake was asked about McConnell's return, noting his "banging on Biden for not negotiating with McCarthy on the debt ceiling."

President Biden has consistently told McCarthy "HERE IS MY BUDGET, SHOW ME YOURS" and McCarthy has refused to do that. The kind of "negotiation" he wants is to strong-arm Biden into SNAP cuts, among other things.

But...letting it pass "as is" is what I'd expect from Katy Tur, who fretted earlier in the show over Rupert Murdoch's 1st Amendment rights.

McCarthy offers non-answer when asked about Paul Ryan's tax cuts ballooning deficit by 2 trillion

"And tax cuts," Eisen interrupted. "That was like $2 trillion in deficit."

But McCarthy argued that the Trump-era tax cuts were good for the economy.

"So I was going to ask you about taxes because I wonder, because you want to extend the Trump tax cuts, correct?" Eisen asked. "But isn't that a little hypocritical when you're talking about finding savings everywhere and being on an unsustainable fiscal path?"

"How's that hypocritical when it's bringing tax cuts, tax savings?" McCarthy retorted. "I will always advocate for the idea that we are streamlining our tax policies, that we're also streamlining our regulation."

Rumor mill is all a-buzzing with speculation over a Fox / Dominion settlement, but...

...I am hoping that Dominion is smart enough to know that fast cash in hand keeps the details of the trial hidden from the public, AND...after being sued by the family of Seth Rich...Fox settled, and after that, Tucker Carlson kept spewing Rich conspiracy theories, avoiding another lawsuit by not naming him specifically. Viewers had already been conditioned to that particular dog whistle. They didn't need Rich's name to get the references.

Kev spots a winning budget strategy...slash SNAP benefits (1.9% of the TOTAL BUDGET)

I mean, THANK GOD Kevin didn't bring up the topic of the Paul Ryan / Trump tax cuts for millionaires.

According to those that have seen McCarthy's plan, the Republicans claim there are "loopholes" that are allowing people to buy things they don't like. The reality is that SNAP benefits make up just 1.9 percent of the federal budget, said the Center for Economic and Policy Research. It helps elderly seniors, people with disabilities, and families with children, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities explained. "Children under age 18 constitute nearly half (44 percent) of all SNAP participants."

Politico reported Sunday that McCarthy's latest idea is to slash food aid to poor families, including children. Still, it's not sitting well with Republican colleagues who are likely aware of the inflated costs around food.

Palm Beach, Florida: Old man yells at cloud, mistaking it for a Merrick Garland prosecutor

On Sunday, Trump ranted that Attorney General Merrick Garland was at fault for all of it, showing photos of the "Garland prosecutors" that include Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. None of them work for the Justice Department.

Garland hired special counsel Jack Smith to handle the investigation into Jan. 6 and the White House documents theft because Garland himself wanted someone independent of the existing DOJ.

Trump has never shown a full understanding of the inner workings of the American government. He thought the White House counsel and Justice Department were his personal legal team. In one embarrassing moment in 2016 during a town hall, Trump was asked what he believes "the top three functions of the United States government" are. He was stumped, a U.S. News and World Reports column recalled.

Bragg, James and Willis are all elected officials in their own states and communities. They're not under the Justice Department and have nothing to do with the federal government.

Big meanie Dems want to ruin Gym Jordan's patriotic Bragg "hearing" with that pesky Ohio State stuff

Jim Jordan's personal history will be fair game for Democrats at Alvin Bragg hearing

During a panel discussion on MSNBC early Sunday morning, one political analyst claimed House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) may be faced with Democrats bringing up sordid details from the Ohio Republican's personal life and crime rates in his home state during his Monday hearing on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

On Monday, Jordan will take his show on the road to New York City for a hearing aimed at Bragg, accusing him of "pro-crime, anti-victim policies."

Speaking with Ayman Mohyeldin, political analyst Matthew Dowd claimed Jordan's attack on Bragg, with Democrats primed to push back, will open the door to everything Jordan-related.

And that could include accusations the Ohio lawmaker witnessed sexual assault and kept quiet about it when he was a wrestling coach at Ohio State.

The "How Republicans Can Get Rid Of Trump" op-eds have morphed from laughable to pathetic

I think I've see one or more "How Republicans Can Get Rid Of Trump" op-eds every day since January 20, 2021.

I don't believe Republicans are going to "get rid" of Trump.

And if he gets the 2024 nomination, runs, and loses, I still don't believe they are going to "get rid" of Trump.

My educated guess is that natural selection will "get rid" of Trump.

I have said this before...Fred was an inhuman abomination who lived to age 94

I think Trump will be around at least that long, which means Republicans get to enjoy him for another eighteen years.

I do not see them growing a spine between now and then. I think that when it comes to what's left of the Republican party, he will bark, they will cower, end of story.

Tim Scott's streadfast refusal to answer direct questions is a signature GOP move

WORD SALAD. 100% meaningless WORD SALAD when Scott is asked about DeSantis' shiny new abortion ban.

So the impression I get is that Scott enjoys speaking, and hearing the sound of his own voice, even if nothing of substance is said.

He WOULD NOT ANSWER direct questions. I don't think I have the stamina to watch a GOP debate with Trump, DeSantis, Scott, Haley, and whoever else slithers onto the stage.

They literally have no candidate so far with ANY kind of "crossover appeal." And DeSantis is the only one who is actively trying to out-Trump Trump.
