Breaking: Clintons Got Millions from Swiss Bank Sec Clinton Shielded from IRS

Source: Daily Kos

Here's the long and short of it. Shortly after she became Secretary of State, Clinton went to Switzerland at the request of her Swiss counterpart. The IRS had sued UBS demanding the identities of some 50,000 account holders. A few months later, Secretary Clinton announced a deal whereby UBS provided information on only 4450 accounts. It was a bit odd that the Secretary of State (any secretary of state) would have been involved in this kind of matter at all.

This is all a bit odd and another instance of a Clinton helping out a giant financial institution. But what is really troubling is what came after. Because it seems that after this intervention, UBS became rather magnanimous toward the Clintons. How so?

1) UBS contributions to the Clinton foundation jumped from 60K prior to 2008 to 600K by 2014. That's a 1000% increase.

2) UBS partnered with the Clinton Foundation to lend $32 million to inner-city entrepreneur programs.

3) Bill Clinton was invited to have some Q & A sessions with UBS big wigs. He was paid $1.5 MILLION for these appearances. It made UBS the single biggest source of corporate speech income since he left office.

Paul Castaway's family needs help burying him.

Some have you have seen the DU OP's about Paul Castaway.

Panich52's OP

Or newspaper articles focusing on his killing by Denver Police.

Denver's Overlooked Police Brutality Problem

Or maybe you might have seen #JusticeforPaulCastaway or #NativeLivesMatter

Paul Castaway was the Rosebud Sioux man shot multiple times by police while he held a knife to his own neck. A shooting police claimed was 'Self Defense'.

And his mother, Lynn Eagle Feather, needs help with funeral expenses.

There is a donation page up at Fundly - https://fundly.com/justice-for-paul-castaway?ft_src=twtshare_mobile

I have to admit I hadn't heard of 'Fundly' before, but I tossed in a few bucks, and I'm hoping other people here might do the same.

(Edit - I also don't know what relation 'Dave Strano', the contact person in Denver Colorado is to Castaway, so as always with online donations, there's always a chance it's not legit.)

(Second Edit - Google suggests Dave Strano is a community organizer in Denver who gets arrested at protests, heh.)

Homeless woman picked up an LAPD nightstick during the skid row shooting, could get life in prison.

http://www.latimes.com/local/crime/la-me-homeless-woman-baton-20150723-story.html (h/t @deray, Deray McKesson)

Millions of people viewed video of the fatal police shooting March 1 of an unarmed black man known as "Africa" outside his skid row tent.

Police said the man, Cameroonian immigrant Charly Keunang, grabbed an officer's holstered gun when they tried to take him into custody on suspicion of robbery. The shooting stoked long-simmering tensions and anger among skid row inhabitants and advocates who accuse Los Angeles police of being too quick to resort to heavy-handed, violent tactics.

...

The homeless woman, Trishawn Cardessa Carey, 34, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer and resisting arrest, and could face 25 years to life in prison under California's three-strikes sentencing law for repeat offenders.

After nearly five months in jail, Carey was granted a reduction in bail late Wednesday afternoon, to $50,000 from just over $1 million.

...

The footage shows Carey briefly lifting the baton as police scuffle with Keunang nearby. It does not show her swinging the club or striking anyone, and the prosecutor says he won't try to prove she did so.

Instead, Denton said he will argue that Carey attempted to attack an officer by "picking up the officer's baton and raising the baton to strike the officer."

Unarmed black man shot by police for fighting back. Black woman picks up a police baton, DOES NOT HIT ANYONE WITH IT, may face 25-life, and started out with a million dollar bond. there is absolutely nothing that is 'right' with this treatment of our citizens by the state.

Three strikes must end. 'Broken windows' policing must end. Overincarceration of black men and women must end. Overcharging and ridiculous bail amounts that leave people rotting in jail must end.

Listen to Tia Oso in her own words. #BlackLivesMatter

Note that I am deliberately NOT posting this in GD : Primaries, because it is about BLM, not 'the candidates'. (my bolds below)

http://mic.com/articles/122629/i-am-the-black-woman-who-interrupted-the-netroots-presidential-town-hall-and-this-is-why

I am Tia Oso, the black woman who took to the stage and demanded a microphone on July 18 at the Netroots Nation Presidential Town Hall in Phoenix, Arizona. I did this to focus the attention of the nation's largest gathering of progressive leaders and presidential hopefuls on the death of Sandra Bland and other black women killed while in police custody, because the most important and urgent issue of our day is structural violence and systemic racism that is oppressing and killing black women, men and children. This is an emergency.

The rest is equally good. Go read it, and actually think about it, while remembering that it's simply not always 'about us' or 'about our candidates'.

This is infuriating.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/07/04/1398938/-GOP-proud-of-Dark-Money-RedMap-election-rigging-firewall-that-gained-unearned-legislative-seats

I can't do justice to the story with excerpts of excerpts, please go and read the story about how badly Republican gerrymandering has screwed over the House of Representatives. Here in my home state, according to the included graphic from Mother Jones, it took 2.5 Dem voters to elect a Dem to the house for every Republican voter to elect a Republican to the House. It's no wonder John Boehner has held onto his seat easily every time anyone has bothered to challenge him, when the district has been so packed with Republicans.

Go, read it, and remember why it is vitally important to gain control of the offices that control redistricting, why those are every bit as important or more than actually winning the White House.
