Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to visit Des Moines on Saturday

"Our next event will be with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti this Saturday at 11:00 AM at Cooney’s in Beaverdale. Just like our event with Governor Bullock, this event will be free and open to all Democrats. Because this is Iowa, CSPAN has requested to attend this event as well. I’ve talked with some of the national press about the visit and they’re saying Mayor Garcetti is one of those people to watch.

He made headlines for raising the minimum wage in Los Angeles and taking on bold transportation and infrastructure plans. He is the city’s youngest and first elected Jewish mayor. He is also the second Mexican American mayor there in more than a century. A Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy reserve, Mayor Garcetti has helped secure housing for more than 8,000 veterans and is committed to veteran employment. One of our own Polk County veterans, Ben Cobley, has agreed to introduce the Mayor. We can’t wait to see you there."

Montana Governor Steve Bullock visits Des Moines

From the Polk County Democrats Weekly Update...

"The first words that Montana Governor Steve Bullock said when he walked through the door last Friday night was, “Wow. Looks like Polk County has done this before.” A few weeks ago, several people had jokingly asked if we were sure that we should be doing an event in Johnston because there aren’t any Democrats there. There certainly were on Friday. Well more than 100 Polk County Democrats showed up to greet him at Doc’s Lounge. Our House District 39 candidate Karin Derry did a great job introducing the Governor. We even had a special appearance from Attorney General Tom Miller. If you missed the event, it will be broadcasting on CSPAN this week."
