Denver’s black clergy to rally support for Bernie Sanders

With the March 1 Colorado caucuses nearing next week, black pastors in Denver who back Bernie Sanders are hoping to introduce the candidate to a voting bloc that might not be too familiar with him.
“We are absolutely trying to recruit African-Americans to support Bernie,” says Bishop Jerry Demmer of the Absolute Word Church in Denver.

SNIP

Demmer, the Denver pastor, says he hopes to announce a day and time for the luncheon event later in the week.
“We simply want to lay out some facts to the African-American community, and the leadership of the African-American community is the pastors, it is not the politicians,” he says

I found it interesting the Hillarys SuperPac has been working for two years in SC to undo the damage she caused with the black community in the primary with Obama. Two years! Not surprising Sandrers is having it tough in this short time.

Chicago Teachers Caucus Rejects Clinton Union Endorsement & Endorses Sanders!

CORE votes to endorse Bernie Sanders... Caucus leading the Chicago Teachers Union rejects earlier Clinton 'endorsement' by the American Federation of Teachers leadership...

After a heated debate, the Caucus Of Rank-and-file Educators (CORE) of the Chicago Teachers Union voted at its February 22, 2016 regular meeting to endorse the candidacy of Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton in the March 15, 2015 Democratic Party primary in Illinois. The vote was overwhelming in support of Sanders (this reporter is a member of CORE and was present and voting at the meeting).

ETA. updated title so Clinton people don't have a fit. For info on this "unimportant" organization of educators:

About CORE
The Caucus of Rank and File Educators (CORE) is a group of dedicated teachers, retirees, Paraprofessional School Related Personnel (PSRPs), parents, community members and other champions of public education. We fight for equitable public education and hope to improve the Chicago Teacher’s Union (CTU) so that it fights both on behalf of its members and on behalf of Chicago’s students.

The principles upon which we organize are set out in the CORE Bylaws:
Member Driven Union – The focus of the caucus is to respond to and represent the voice of the members.

Transparency & Accountability – All actions, elections and finances shall be open to all members for inspection and as such are open to public debate and discussion within the membership. We shall aggressively seek open governance in the Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Teachers Union, and all organizations that affect public education.

Education for All – CORE fights for equitable high quality education for all students and seeks to establish and maintain partnerships among parents, students, community, and labor organizations for this purpose.

Defense of Publicly Funded Public Education – Whereas public education is under attack from a well-funded group of business interests, politicians, privatizers and enemies of publicly funded public education, CORE seeks to defend publicly funded public education as the last bastion of democratic expression and hope for students in all public schools across Chicago.

Strong Contract – A strong Agreement between the Chicago Teacher’s Union and the Board of Education shall ensure that working conditions and compensation provide for optimal teaching and learning.

Really, what do here people know about education that Randi doesn't? They have a nerve preferring Sanders.

Host of Benjamin Dixon Show is on a Twitter Rant re hypocrisy of black journalists & I Love It!

[IMG][/IMG]Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
Gotta do it. Been trying to avoid it. But, I can't anymore. So, regrettably, I've got to call out some of my favorite black journalists

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
Here's to all the black journalists whose derelictions of duty to the black community couldn't be more obvious at this point...

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
Instead of fostering an unbiased comparison between the benefits of Sanders or Clinton's policies for the black community, they've played...

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
They've played a very childish game of "ohhh that white man has a black problem." Instead of elevating the conversation, they've debased it

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
Instead of being leaders in thought, they've pandered for clicks to the detriment of a vital conversation. They don't have to like Sanders..

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
They can absolutely love and endorse Hillary. But to play these manipulative games of grade school rhetoric and call it journalism...

Benjamin Dixon
‏@TheBpDShow
then have to gall to speak as though they represent the AA community. No. Not when 31% of AA live in poverty & 51% of black youth unemployed

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
And you want to spill ink over Sanders not as loved as the Sax playing Clinton, or not getting the right number of black faces in an ad? ...

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
There is a conversation to be had over the economics of the Status quo versus the economics of a revolution tans these black journalists are

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
Are publishing what tantamount to tabloid gossip columns. This is true of many white journalists as well, but the economic condition of AAs

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
Make it that much more irresponsible for black journalists. You have not fostered critical conversations to benefit AA. You've gossiped

Benjamin Dixon ‏@TheBpDShow 3h3 hours ago
If you're a black journalist and you think I'm talking about you, let me reassure you that I am. Shame on you.

Who They Are:

National People's Action (NPA) is a network of grassroots organizations with a fierce reputation for direct action from across the country that work to advance a national economic and racial justice agenda. NPA has over 200 organizers working to unite everyday people in cities, towns, and rural communities throughout the United States through direct-action, house meetings and community organizing.

NPA and its affiliates range from farmers in rural Iowa to youth in the South Bronx. We have affiliate organizations in 14 states with remote network offices in Washington D.C., California, New York and a central office in Chicago. Our target population is not limited to a geographical area or regional group but rather works with and on behalf of hard working Americans everywhere to ensure an equitable and just democracy. Our population includes people from all walks of life despite differences in age, race, sexual orientation, income and culture. We aim for an inclusive open population in which people feel welcome and a part of grassroots power organizing.

NPA staffs and supports three local, state and national campaigns in support of economic and racial justice: Bank Accountability, Housing Justice, and Immigrant and Worker’s Rights. These campaigns strive for “wins” meaning tangible concrete changes for our communities through policy and consciousness of social injustices and the empowerment to fight them.

OUR HISTORY

Neighborhood residents are experts on the needs of their own neighborhoods. Thirty-three years ago that radical idea lead to the founding of the National Training and Information Center (NTIC), which is now National People’s Action (NPA). Everyday people working together to gain power and win change by organizing their community and their country. Since its founding in 1972 by Shel Trapp and Gale Cincotta, NPA has specialized building grassroots leadership and creating powerful community organizations through issue based community organizing. NPA has been a leader in the fight to hold banks and corporations accountable to the communities that they serve and profit.

Why We Need Democratic Socialism to Fix Our Educational System

By Paul Buchheit - college teacher, an active member of US Uncut Chicago, founder and developer of social justice and educational websites (UsAgainstGreed.org, PayUpNow.org, RappingHistory.org), and the editor and main author of "American Wars: Illusions and Realities"

Latoya and Jalesa, both 26, grew up on the west side of Chicago, attending Calhoun Public School during the day and stepping across the street to Marillac Social Center for after-school programs. They lived in a tough neighborhood. Latoya said the summer gunshots came as often as the sound of ice-cream truck bells in the suburbs. But everyone knew each other on those two blocks; kids walked together, to and from school and in the evenings. Parents—most of whom had gone to Calhoun—also knew each other, often through volunteer work at the social center.

In 2013 Calhoun was one of 50 schools closed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. It was shut down despite a committee recommendation that it remain open. Jalesa and Latoya, who still work at the center as they pursue other career interests, said the children are scattered now. Most of them take buses to a variety of public and charter schools outside the once-intimate neighborhood. Some have to walk a few blocks, some have to cross busy streets. None of them gather together before and after school, as they used to do on the grounds of Calhoun.

SNIP

The Three Big Sins of Charter Schools

Charter schools generally perform no better than public schools, as summarized by the nonpartisan Spencer Foundation and Public Agenda: "There is very little evidence that charter and traditional public schools differ meaningfully in their average impact on students' standardized test performance." Yet in at least three ways charters undermine and debase the educational system that they profess to serve:

1. Committing Fraud: In 2015 they wasted an estimated $1.4 billion of taxpayer money through "financial fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement."

2. Lacking Transparency: The Center for Media and Democracy calls them a "black hole" into which the federal government has dumped an outrageous $3.7 billion over two decades with little accountability to the public.

3. Discarding Students: Prominent New York charter network Success Academy has frequently been accused of "counseling out" students who are low-performing or disruptive or otherwise difficult to teach. Even worse are charters that shut down, stranding hundreds of students, while their business operators can just move on to their next project. Nearly 2,500 charter schools closed their doors from 2001 to 2013, leaving over a quarter of a million kids temporarily without a school.

Now Hillary in November of 2015 was . . . wait for it . . . against charter schools. BUT PRIOR TO THAT - she was an advocate of charter schools. “I stand behind the charter school/public school movement, because parents do deserve greater choice within
the public school system to meet the unique needs of their children. Slowly but surely, we’re beginning to create schooling
opportunities through the public school charter system-raising academic standards, empowering educators.”

Now that Hill has endorsement of the teacher's union - it's a lot more muddy, hence her change in position. That is if the media actually reported truth.

But just look at one of Hillary's big supporters Shavar Jeffries. Now he is Pres of the DFER. More info on Democrats For Education Reform (for people who don't know what this organization stands for) https://seattleducation2010.wordpress.com/2016/02/21/dfer-loves-hillary-nuff-said/

Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida - Endorses SANDERS! AND BY MAJORITY OF MEMBERS!

http://floridapolitics.com/archives/202372-democratic-progressive-caucus-of-florida-endorses-bernie-sanders

“Throughout his political career as well as his presidential campaign, Bernie Sanders has proved to be a bold progressive who is ready to fight for the values that DPCF members hold dear,” said Susan Smith, president of the caucus. “Like our membership, Bernie views the problems of income inequality, institutional racism and money in politics as structural issues that must be addressed for real change to occur.”

And I love this:
The Progressive Caucus upset some Florida Democrats last year when they came out in opposition to Congressman Patrick Murphy’s U.S. Senate bid. It led one prominent Democrat to attempt to “decertify” the group.

Yup - that's what the establishment Dems do to people who disagree with their choices.

Amy Goodman Tells CNN Host: Stop Your 'Obsession With Polls' And Report On 'People's Records'

God I love that woman!

Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman told CNN host Brian Stelter on Sunday that his network should focus less on presidential polls and more on candidates' records.

"The media is so commercial, it's so driven by corporate interests," Goodman explained to Stelter during an interview on CNN's Reliable Sources. "And it's so important though that people recognize that there is a whole independent media world out there."

"We do not emphasize the polls," she pointed out. "I would love the media, there to be a month without polls. What is the value of these polls? If I am making a decision about a candidate, I want to weigh their record."

<SNIP>

"People should just count the times that every network flashes the polls," she remarked. "Are we telling people what to think?"
