I know that the State Department was investigating...

... State Department security procedures, NOT Hillary Clinton. What I the official task of the FBI investigation?

E-mail flap is like Benghazi flap is like Whitewater flap is like Vince foster flap is like...

I'd like to thank BeachBumBob for coming up with this pithy way to put e-mail in perspective.

Could we please let MadAboutHarry back in the HillaryGroup?

He/she made a post in GDP saying he/she was "a little mad" at Hillary "right now." He/she was then banned from this group. Please let him/her back in. We don't want to be the kind of Tea Party/Sanders people who have strict litmus tests for membership. We shouldn't require perfection of our members any more than we should require it of Hillary. This should be a safe place to discuss all things Hillary felt by her supporters. I don't agree with everything MadAboutHarry said, but I did take a day to sort out my thoughts after the OIG report. Bottom line for me.... so she made a couple of mistakes. So what? Who doesn't? It's bizarre that she gets scathing headlines and Trump lies and contradicts himself up the wazoo and folks just treat it as entertainment.

Let's model a more complex/understanding view of human nature. Both toward Hillary and toward MadAboutHarry. OK?

OK, so she sometimes makes mistakes! So what!

One of the things that keeps me on Hillary’s side is her sense for complexity. Her unwillingness to see the world in black and white. So what if, under the artificial pressure of a debate, she said “anytime anywhere” and something about being “transparent.” Then later realized that real life required different choices. Why in the world would we hold someone to such a standard of perfection? If we did, we’d just get a fake image of a candidate.

So I’m absolutely fine with Hillary, slip ups and all. Give me someone who’s smart and has a capacity to deal with complexity. It’s a scary thought that we might get someone who can’t in the white house.

Enough with trying to defend every tiny thing she says or does. She's human! A great human!! Go, Hillary!!

Does anyone know where the post is...

... that reported that no one used the state department's e-mail? Everyone used something else because it was so annoying/unreliable (don't remember which). It was posted yesterday or today.

May 25, 2016

This deserves a post of its own.

From the OIG report.

“State’s technology is so antiquated that NO ONE uses a State-issued laptop and even high officials routinely end up using their home email accounts to be able to get their work done quickly and effectively.”

Another reason why people who know her like her.

Hillary Clinton’s handling of Caitlyn Jenner shows her level-headed political brilliance
http://www.dailynewsbin.com/opinion/hillary-clintons-handling-of-caitlyn-jenner-shows-her-level-headed-political-brilliance/24148/comment-page-1/#comment-40334

When the week began, longtime conservative Caitlyn Jenner was voicing her support for the republicans, while launching personal attacks at Hillary Clinton. By the time the week ended, Jenner was posting a selfie she’d just taken with Clinton. It wasn’t a complete reversal of Jenner’s position, but it was a remarkably quick softening of her views. For all the talk of Hillary Clinton not being a naturally gifted politician in front of the cameras, the incident revealed just how adept she is behind the scenes – and how little she cares about getting her feelings hurt.

Hillary quickly seized on what many of us had recognized: Caitlyn Jenner is in a tricky position. She still holds many of the same conservative republican views that she always has. But now that she’s become one of the de facto faces of the LGBT movement, she’s struggling with the fact that most of her own party leaders hold distinctly anti-LGBT views. She’s also facing backlash from the LGBT community, and from her fellow transgender people, for trying to cling to her longtime conservative beliefs. That means Hillary was in a position to help out Caitlyn while helping herself.

We don’t know exactly what happened behind the scenes, but the end result was Caitlyn Jenner posting a picture of herself with her arm around Hillary Clinton, along with the hashtag “willing to listen.” Presumably, Hillary asked for a meeting between the two. Whatever they discussed, the end result is that Caitlyn’s public posts about Hillary are suddenly a whole lot softer and less damaging than they were when she was using phrases like “political hack” when the week began.

In the end, the public and the LGBT community will decide the fate of Caitlyn Jenner, whether or not she gets to be a leader of the community while she’s endorsing republicans, and whether or not being seen with Hillary will help her in that regard. But either way it’s not Hillary’s problem. Her problem was that a famous woman was running around saying terrible things about her. Instead of sulking over hurt feelings, or trying to publicly face off with the accusations that Caitlyn was hurling at her, Hillary simply decided to tamp things down with her behind the scenes.

And so now a prominent figure who was working against Hillary’s election effort has been turned into someone who, at worst, is taking a more neutral and conciliatory position toward her. No one should be holding their breath for a Caitlyn Jenner endorsement of Hillary Clinton any time soon. But that part doesn’t matter, and it wasn’t the point anyway. Hillary knew that Caitlyn was in need of a life raft, threw her one, and took an enemy off the board. It’s how diplomacy works. And it’s a small example of why Hillary is so capable of getting things done behind the scenes in general.

My GDP project to support Hillary.

I've always assumed that there are common-sensical Bernie supporters reading GDP, maybe not venturing to post too much. The quote at the bottom of this post in response to one of my posts illustrates the point. I've decided to be more systematic in presenting a Hillary presence in GDP, now that we can expect more and more Bernie supporters to be taking a second look at Hillary. Several times a week (daily, depending on my life), I'm going to publish a supportive Hillary post - with a punch in the subject. Some days it may be a no text "Do as much good as you can for as many people as you can for as long as you can" or "She's smart and she's got a heart." Other times it may be a repeat of one of the best posts. Today it's "I was a Hillary hater until I read her e-mails." Every few days I'll publish links here in the HC group, so you can see what I'm up to.

For now, I'd appreciate suggestions for zippy subjects or great older posts.

As a Bernie supporter who is trying hard to get excited about Hillary this story is helpful."

I was a Hillary hater until I read her e-mails.

This article is a few months old, but it bears re-publishing now that more and more Sanders supporters are "trying to get excited about Hillary" as one such person put it.

http://bluenationreview.com/i-was-a-hillary-hater-until-i-read-her-emails/

Her tenure as Secretary of State, of course, led to the bogus email scandal, which in turn led to the slow-drip release of the emails on her home server. I decided I was going to read them.

In those emails, I discovered a Hillary Clinton I didn’t even know existed.

I found a woman who cared about employees who lost loved ones. I found a woman who, without exception, took time to write notes of condolence and notes of congratulations, no matter how busy she was. I found a woman who could be a tough negotiator and firm in her expectations, but still had a moment to write a friend with encouragement in tough times. She worried over people she didn’t know, and she worried over those she did.

And everywhere she went, her concern for women and children was clearly the first and foremost thing on her mind.
