Father beats his 21 month old daughter to death out of jelousy

REALLY getting sick of this demented shit. This comes right after reading about that trailer trash mother who went online looking for people to rape and kill her daughter while she watched. How exactly do people get so sick in the head to begin with? I feel like it's a cop out blaming it all on drugs or prior abuse.

"Ryan Lawrence, 25, pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in a plea deal with Onondaga County prosecutors. Lawrence admitted beating to death his 21-month-old daughter Maddox outside Syracuse in February. Authorities say he burned the girl's body in a fire pit, then tied the remains to a cinder block that he dumped in Onondaga Creek in Syracuse.

U.S. Swimmer Ryan Lochte Robbed at Gunpoint in Brazil

I hope this isn't a dupe...
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/2016-rio-summer-olympics/u-s-swimmer-ryan-lochte-robbed-gunpoint-brazil-n630396

U.S. Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint while in Rio de Janeiro overnight Saturday, NBC News has confirmed.

Following conflicting reports — including the IOC denying any incident took place — Lochte himself confirmed with TODAY's Billy Bush that he and the other swimmers were robbed at gunpoint.

"We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over," Lochte said. "They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground — they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn't do anything wrong, so — I'm not getting down on the ground.

"And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, "Get down," and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet — he left my cell phone, he left my credentials."

DEA regularly mines Americans' travel records to seize millions in cash

WASHINGTON — Federal drug agents regularly mine Americans’ travel information to profile people who might be ferrying money for narcotics traffickers — though they almost never use what they learn to make arrests or build criminal cases.

Instead, that targeting has helped the Drug Enforcement Administration seize a small fortune in cash.

DEA agents have profiled passengers on Amtrak trains and nearly every major U.S. airline, drawing on reports from a network of travel-industry informants that extends from ticket counters to back offices, a USA TODAY investigation has found. Agents assigned to airports and train stations singled out passengers for questioning or searches for reasons as seemingly benign as traveling one-way to California or having paid for a ticket in cash.

The DEA surveillance is separate from the vast and widely-known anti-terrorism apparatus that now surrounds air travel, which is rarely used for routine law enforcement. It has been carried out largely without the airlines’ knowledge.

Good old civil forfeiture. Better not travel with money in our formerly free country. If you do, LE can take the money from you without due process and then challenge you to prove that you got it legally.

All you never wanted to know about civil forfeiture

IMO it's time for the DEA to be abolished. They no longer serve their original purpose. Now they serve to protect the interests of big pharma/big prison/Law Enforcement/Big alcohol etc.

Drug Enforcement Administration Will Not Call for Reclassifying Marijuana

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/legal-pot/drug-enforcement-administration-will-not-call-reclassifying-marijuana-n628131

"This decision isn't based on danger. This decision is based on whether marijuana, as determined by the FDA, is a safe and effective medicine," he said, "and it's not."

This is honestly getting silly. By the perverted logic being used by the DEA, anything which isn't an FDA approved medicine could be stuck in schedule 1 and arbitrarily banned. The DEA even admits that the classification isn't about danger. It's about the lack of proof backing up the medicinal value of the plant. HELLO? By that logic why isn't nicotine a schedule 1 drug? No medical uses and kills hundreds of thousands per year. I'm convinced that the DEA is simply being paid off by big pharma, and big pharma don't like seeing prescriptions drop by 25% in MMJ states.

Soon we might see over half of all states with legal mj or medical mj. Over 55% of the public supports legal recreational use. What in the HELL is it ever gonna take for the DEA to abandon their FLAT EARTHER approach to regulating this drug>?

Stuff like this makes me realize that those Bundy clan jerks were right. Not for what they were protesting, but their overall point is correct. The federal alphabet agencies are utterly corrupt, out of control and lack accountability.

Thoughts on CRISPR and genetic engineering

Genetic Engineering Will Change Everything Forever – CRISPR

Am I the only one slightly terrified by this? Seems like the lead up to most sci-fi dystopia movies. Imagine a world in which the rich and powerful never die, and are genetically superior to us in every way. What could go wrong?

IMO the most terrifying aspect of this tech is the thought of totalitarian regimes using it to create a permanent slave class. What if they used it to maintain control by engineering people who would die without a weekly injection of some chemical from the government? I think I remember some bad sci-fi movie where people had to pay the government for more 'time' or they would die.

Other issues include the creation of extremely deadly bio weapons and invasive species.

Genetic Engineering is a lot like Nuclear Power. Along with the great potential for good, you have an equal potential for evil. The world needs to tread carefully into this realm and they need to set extremely strict penalties for those who misuse this tech.

Rio 2016: Swimmers need to ingest only three teaspoons of water to be almost certain getting sick

A report commisioned by the Associated Press has revealed that water in Rio's Olympic and Paralympic venues holds viral levels 1.7m times what would be considered alarming in the United States and Europe just five days before the Games get underway.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/olympics/rio-2016-water-pollution-virus-risk-danger-swimming-sailing-rowing-chance-of-infection-almost-a7165866.html

Is it too late to scrap this thing and try again? Not worth sickening and endangering thousands of athletes IMO. Brazil obviously paid some people off to get the summer games. Never seen a more unsuitable location chosen.
