contributed nearly $3,000 to a nonprofit group tied to the violent white nationalist protests in Charlottesville, Va.
Robert L. Echols, a lawyer at Bass Berry & Sims, donated $2,950 to the Mary Noel Kershaw Foundation, which funds firearms self-defense training for the League of the South. Southern Poverty Law Center considers both organizations "neo-confederate" hate groups.
One of the foundations main activities is to provide grants to the League. In 2015 the Kershaw Foundation paid for three self-defense classes, public tax records show one with firearms, with an average of 15 people attending each class.

Zuckerberg: 'With the potential for more rallies, we're watching situation closely'
Better late than never I guess
Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook is doing the best it can to both be a place where everyone can share their ideas and also feel safe.
Right now with emotions running high days after white extremists violently clashed with counterprotesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, leaving one woman dead that's a painfully delicate task.
And it's one that Zuckerberg admits Facebook won't get right all the time.
"It's important that Facebook is a place where people with different views can share their ideas. Debate is part of a healthy society," Zuckerberg says in a post he published on his personal Facebook page Wednesday night.

Cleveland Clinic pulls gala from Trump's Mar-a-Lago
WASHINGTON -- The Cleveland Clinic is cutting another tie to President Donald Trump, canceling plans to hold its 2018 Florida fundraising gala from the Trump-owned Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach.
"After careful consideration, Cleveland Clinic has decided that it will not hold a Florida fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago in 2018," the hospital system said in a statement. "We thank the staff of Mar-a-Lago for their service over the years."
The Clinic and its CEO, Toby Cosgrove, had taken criticism for continuing to hold the annual event there.
The exit follows a decision by Cosgrove and top executives of some of the nation's leading corporations on Wednesday to disband a business advisory council that reported to the president. They said Trump's recent comments on last weekend's violence in Virginia by neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan supporters were inappropriate and didn't represent the values for which they and their organizations stood.

ON EVE OF TRIAL, PSYCHOLOGISTS AGREE TO HISTORIC SETTLEMENT IN ACLU CASE ON BEHALF OF
Source: ACLU
NEW YORK In a first for a case involving CIA torture, the American Civil Liberties Union announced a settlement today in the lawsuit against the two psychologists who designed and implemented the agencys brutal program. A jury trial was scheduled to begin on September 5, after the plaintiffs successfully overcame every attempt by the psychologists to have the case dismissed.
The lawsuit was brought by the ACLU on behalf of Suleiman Abdullah Salim, Mohamed Ahmed Ben Soud, and the family of Gul Rahman, who froze to death in a secret CIA prison. The three men were tortured and experimented on using methods developed by the CIA-contracted psychologists, James Mitchell and John Bruce Jessen.
This is a historic victory for our clients and the rule of law, said ACLU attorney Dror Ladin. This outcome shows that there are consequences for torture and that survivors can and will hold those responsible for torture accountable. It is a clear warning for anyone who thinks they can torture with impunity.
The full terms of the settlement agreement are confidential.

Daily Stormer (May be) Booted From Russia for 'Propagandizing Neo-Nazi Ideology
Russias media watchdog on Thursday said it had requested that a Russian internet provider suspend the Daily Stormer neo-Nazi website after it was previously blocked by U.S. tech firms.
Roskomnadzor head Alexander Zharov told the Interfax news agency the watchdog had asked the Ru-center, the company that provided the Russian domain, to stop servicing the website.
The Daily Stormer propagandizes a neo-Nazi ideology, inciting racial, national and other social hatred, Zharov told Interfax.
