"Those who exalt themselves shall be humbled, and those that

humble themselves shall be exalted." Matthew 23:12 NLT

https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Matthew%2023%3A12

I especially like the quote from the Phillips version below:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2023:11-13&version=PHILLIPS

For several weeks now, when thinking about this election cycle, this verse comes to my mind; especially considering how Donald exalts himself constantly. He even creates environments to live in that exhalt himself with all the pomp and circumstance and gaudy materials. I heard him say to an interviewer when asked if he ever asked God for forgiveness, "that's a good question...there is no reason to ask for forgiveness when you aren't making any mistakes" Trump replied.

For years I have said the American people should elect Ken and Barbie (the toy dolls) for President because there are no perfect people. There are only imperfect people that are humble and work hard to serve others, especially those who are less fortunate, or, put another way, to serve "the least among you" as the Christian doctrine states.

It seems to me that after decades of working for average Americans and all the while being attacked, and demonized, Hillary Clinton who has been humble and hardworking and loyal to her God, her Country, her family, and to her fellow Americans is being blessed, and hopefully, exalted for all the good she has done.

In honor of Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony

Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony never got to vote. Actually Susan B. Anthony voted illegally once. The womens' suffrage cause, particularly the American suffragists is on my mind a great deal now because of this historic opportunity to vote for a woman. In my heart I hope that millions of women in the United States will cast their votes for Hillary Clinton and by doing so may their actions honor the spirits and souls of the women who were never allowed to vote yet fought for our right to vote.

I completed my ballot and turned it in to the board of election staff yesterday. As I watched the lady - many women and a few men were working in the office- put my sealed ballot in the ballot box my mind was busy with many thoughts but among these thoughts was an awareness that women in this election have the power to refuse Donald entrance in the White House. More than that, because of his abhorrent behavior and vile words women have the power to voice a resounding emphatic "NO!" to this man who we have all encountered during our female lives; we can denounce this sexist, misogynistic perpetrator who lacks experience, character, accountability, responsibility, maturity, and temperament as well as required knowledge about our Constitution, American history, current world leaders and issues and more.

So, I thought I would take this opportunity to express gratitude for women I never knew who were born before me, who organized, and agitated, and educated, and marched, and kept this up for decades so that women today can cast their votes. Wherever you all are now, thank you and may you Rest In Peace and may at least some of our votes for the first women president of the United States of America be offered in memory of you all.

I am including a few links here about the history of womens' suffrage for anyone else who loves history.

Any news from Are_Grits_Groceries after Hurricane Matthew?

I hope Grits, and Moonpie and Tater are safe and well after the storm. My thoughts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Matthew. I think this was the last post by Grits before Hurricane Matthew arrived.

"...and next month we will grab you where it hurts, by your

ballots." Lindy West NYT Op Ed today

I love the last two paragraphs but the whole thing is great. Thanks Lindy West. She says the fact is that "you have failed women for generations" and next month we will grab you by your "ballots". How I would love to see Nate Silver's vision of the nation blue because women refused to vote for him. Yeah, I know I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one.

P.S. I hear that song playing, "I am woman, hear me roar, in numbers too big to ignore..."

"One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change

a room, then it can change a city, and if one voice can change a city, then it can change a state, and if one voice can change a state then it can change a nation, and if can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world." President Barack Obama

I have the cd from his campaign called "Yes We Can" I love it; the music is great and there are many excerpts of him saying his words while campaigning, the quotes are woven in with the music.

A couple of days ago, in passing, I saw a news story on NBC about a little girl who is using social media to speak out against war and to plea for peace. Perhaps this isn't new news to some people but I was unaware of it. In the brief coverage I saw, I thought this little girl - her name is
Bana al-Abed - to me at least, was like a much younger modern day Anne Frank with a living diary (i.e., social media). Amazing!

If it were in my power I would immediately give her what she asks for, the end to the war that threatens and terrorizes her and her local world. I would give her peace. I have no idea how, if that were even possible, I could make that happen. And since that is beyond the realm of possibility for me, I wonder what other action I could take to help further her cause? Again, I do not know, but what a brave and smart girl and what a wonderful spirit she has. Her story touched my heart.

Thank you Kelly Oxford

After Donald Trump confessed to serial sexual assault, people began to discuss and to react to his vile words. As a female with a long history of being sexually assaulted since I was a very young child, and now as a mature adult who understands sexual assault happens to males and females, I began to review the many instances where boys and men violated me with demeaning looks and words, and also the times of sexually abusive physical touch. This issue is so serious and it is so pervasive in our culture, indeed it is in all cultures.

Then, just today, I read about Kelly Oxford's request on Twitter to send experiences of sexual assault to her by Tweet. The response has been amazing and horrifying in that so many people, mostly women in is case, have constantly sent Tweets to her for hours.

I am moved by her spontaneous thoughtful brave response to Trumps despicable words and deeds.
Thank you Kelly Oxford whoever and wherever you are for this candid moving discussion of the real impact this abusive behavior has on people and to the tremendous number of people that have experienced sexual assault.

I wonder if there's a Bleever in the house? Or maybe a friend of Bleever?

Has anyone heard from Bleever lately? Is Bleever still around here at DU? Is there a forum for DU old timers?

All this nonsense about Kaine interrupting during the debate...

I am glad Kaine interrupted. I am glad Kaine interrupted being interrupted by Pence. I am glad Kaine interrupted with facts, lots and lots of facts.

For years, decades even, Democrats were polite and patient and waited for their turn to reply to people like Pence and Trump and a long list of other people cut from the Republican cloth. Democrats waited for equal air time, a chance to reply and rebut these people. In most instances, that opportunity didn't happen. I recall constantly hearing Democrats needed to grow a backbone and get a spine. Now, having found said backbone/spine, they are attacked for interrupting. Oh geez oh Pete!

And, I have seen posts here that compare Kaine to Hillary in he first debate suggesting Kaine should have been quiet and let Pence talk and "hang himself" like Trump did. To those people I would say, what worked for Hillary would not have worked for Kaine. As a female, I believe this strategy worked for Hillary as a woman combined with the fact that her opponent, Trump, is a different type of man who definitely "hangs himself" with his words given half a chance. If Kaine, as a man, used the same approach that Hillary used with Trump Kaine would come off as weak. A quiet woman is one thing, but a man would be judged differently. And Kaine would be called spineless and told to grow a backbone. It has happened before and it happened for years.

So, for the record, I, for one, am very glad Kaine handled the debate the way that he did. He was armed with facts and he used them, he hammered them home and he defended Hillary's record and policy proposals.
