A republican governor continued the state of emergency in the state of MO (Missouri). I am shocked since it took him so long to even recognize covid as a serious issue, despite the fact that both major metro areas (KC MO and STL MO) were dealing w/ some pretty serious covid outbreaks, which then spread to SW Missouri and other parts of MO. Perhaps people recognized how screwed up he was in his initial responses to dealing w/ the Covid outbreak?

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Governor Mike Parson extended the state of emergency in Missouri through August to further help with the fight against the coronavirus.

Parson announced Missouri's state of emergency on March 13, 2020 and it was set to expire on March 31. Parson extended the executive order on Friday through August 31, to "help accelerate COVID-19 recovery."

"The state of emergency extension will allow the state continued flexibility in providing resources and easing regulatory burdens to further assist Missouri’s COVID-19 recovery efforts," Parson's office said in the announcement. "This also allows for continued utilization of the Missouri National Guard and federal funding for COVID-19 response efforts."

Ironic and should tell everyone who thinks republicans are moving together as one, they are NOT. I think it is great, not from a purely governing component as we do need responsible government working, especially now in these perilous times, but when they are arguing among themselves over optics (in giving the speech in person vs. being televised). Mike Parson said lawmakers disrespected him when House leaders told him he couldn’t give his State of the State address in that chamber because of coronavirus concerns. The Republican wrote a letter Friday to GOP lawmakers accusing legislative leaders of an “insider stunt and petty show of arrogance and political power.”

“It is hard to see this as anything other than a purposeful and disgusting scheme to embarrass me and the Office of the Governor,” he wrote. The governor traditionally delivers an annual speech to lawmakers in the House, but Parson said the House told him he couldn’t use that chamber just hours before he was set to speak Wednesday.

Republican legislative leaders said in a joint statement that they switched venues to ensure proper social distancing.

Parson's State of the State speech was scheduled to take place shortly after House lawmakers returned to the Capitol after canceling work for a week because of an outbreak of COVID-19. The Senate has remained in session, but Sen. Andrew Koenig said he tested positive for the virus days before Parson's address. Several other senators were quarantining.

The top Senate Democrat questioned why Parson gave an in-person speech at all.

This is one of those fields where trump's unilateral actions to cut legal immigration down, reduced the number of people willing to do this type of work. Liquid nitrogen leak at Georgia poultry plant kills 6, Posted on Jan 28, 2021

GAINESVILLE, Ga, (AP) — A liquid nitrogen leak at a northeast Georgia poultry plant killed six people Thursday, with multiple others taken to the hospital. Beth Downs, a spokesperson for Northeast Georgia Health System, said five people died at the Gainesville plant before they could be taken to the hospital, while one person died in the emergency room.

The leak happened after 10 a.m. Thursday at Prime Pak Foods, Hall County Fire Department Division Chief Zach Brackett said. He said firefighters arrived to find workers milling around outside, some with injuries. At least four firefighters were injured and take to the Gainesville hospital with what Brackett described as respiratory complaints. Brackett said about 130 workers were taken by bus to a nearby church where they were examined for injuries; some were then taken to the hospital. Hall County school officials said students were being kept safe inside a nearby elementary school and said the leak was contained and not airborne. About 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) of a road that runs in front of the plant and school was closed.

Prime Pak Foods merged into Foundation Food Group, a company that takes raw chicken and processes it into products like chicken fingers and individual chicken cuts for restaurants and food service operations. The company’s CEO did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment. Gainesville is the center of Georgia’s poultry industry, which is the nation’s largest, with thousands of employees working for multiple processing plants.

ST. LOUIS CITY (KMOV.com) -- All gatherings will be limited to 10 people in St. Louis City starting Saturday as the city sees a new surge in COVID-19 cases. Mayor Lyda Krewson tweeted the announcement Thursday saying, "over the last few weeks, especially after Halloween, it's no secret we continue to see a resurgence of new #COVID19 cases and hospitalizations."
Gatherings of more than 10 people will be prohibited in the city effective Saturday, Nov. 14 until further notice. As of Thursday, the city has seen a cumulative total of 9,877 coronavirus cases and 220 deaths.
According to the health order, the city's positivity rate is over 10% and the majority of new cases are coming from informal gatherings of friends, families and neighbors. The city is recommending gathering be limited to no more than two households.
This order does not affect the day-t-day operations of businesses, schools and governmental offices. These institutions must still abide by previous orders of social distancing, mask wearing and thorough sanitization.

In Missouri, where I live and pay taxes, we have a itemized (if you itemize on your federal return) limit on the state return of I think $10,000, thus a lot of the massive tax credits / deductions are rendered mute in doing state returns.

I wonder just how many state tax returns trump has committed fraud on or fudged the numbers on? I know that he has properties in NY, New Jersey, Florida, etc.

Last night, we had a lightning storm that seemed to go on and on and on forever (the lightning). Unfortunately, some people didn't take shelter to get out of the lightning storms and thus got struck...I hope they recover...the reason I mentioned it was in fact, such an unusual storm w/ the constant and long term lightning.

SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Paramedics took four adults to the hospital after they were struck by lightning in south St. Louis City during Sunday's severe storms. Shortly after 8 p.m., firefighters were called to Marquette Park at Montana and Louisiana in Dutchtown for a report of an electrocution. Authorities said four people were transported to the hospital, three in serious condition and one critically hurt.

Aber Ordonez said he and a group of others were playing soccer at the park before the storm rolled in. He said his brother, Noe Ordonez, was sitting in a lawn chair when he was struck by lightning. Ordonez said the bolt was so powerful it hit the side of his face before knocking his shoes off. He said his 28-year-old brother is still in the hospital and is unsure what his outcome will be.

This is pathetic and harms the rest of STLMO city residents by allowing the McCloskeys to threaten others by allowing them to point guns at city residents walking by on public sidewalks. The McCloskeys claim that the street was private. How did they know that perhaps the protesters were there by invitation of residents that live on that street?

Another reason that this governor (not elected) should be thrown out on his face out of office. Even thought he claimed he was a sheriff, he should know better than to have irresponsible citizens fly off the handle brandishing guns on the fly and aiming them at protesters. It's a good way for accidents to happen. As a citizen of the city of STLMO, I strongly encouraged our city circuit attorney to take strong steps to address the threatening of protesters at gunpoint (like the governor said, take violent criminals off of our streets, the McCloskeys not the protesters)...

O'FALLON, Mo. (AP/KMOV) — Missouri Gov. Mike Parson told a radio host that based on the information he's received, it's likely he would pardon a white St. Louis couple if they are charged for brandishing guns during a racial injustice protest outside their mansion.

Democratic Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner is investigating Mark and Patricia McCloskey, both in their 60s, for an incident on June 28. Protesters who were marching to the nearby home of Mayor Lyda Krewson walked onto the private street where the McCloskeys live.

The couple accused demonstrators of knocking down an iron gate marked with “No Trespassing” and “Private Street” signs, though a protest leader has said the gate was already open and no protesters damaged it. The McCloskeys came outside with weapons — him with a long-barreled gun and her with a small handgun.

"As a former Sheriff, a law enforcement officer for over 22 years, and now Governor, when it comes to supporting law enforcement officers and their families who are under attack, I’ll always stand with President Trump and have their backs," he tweeted.

He continue by stating Republicans and Trump are working "hard to take violent criminals off of our streets and stop these crazy efforts to defund the police." Parson then attacked presidential candidate Joe Biden and Democrats for "allowing the radical left to make our communities less safe."

Their actions, captured on video and viewed by millions, drew praise from some who said they were legally defending their home, but scorn from others who said they risked bloodshed by displaying the weapons. Photos emerged as memes on both sides of the gun debate.

Gardner has not disclosed whether she intends to file charges, but several leading Republicans — including President Donald Trump, Sen. Josh Hawley and Parson — have criticized her for even deciding to investigate the couple. Parson cited Missouri's “castle doctrine” law that justifies lethal force for those protecting their homes. Hawley is seeking a U.S. Department of Justice investigation of Gardner.
