tulipsandroses's JournalCop ousted from police association. Indicted. Faces 20 years in prison for exposing police brutality
In September, Esqueda was featured in Behind the Blue Wall, a series of stories published by USA Today covering more than 300 cases of police officers over the past decade who have exposed and spoken out against alleged misconduct of other officers in their departments. Esqueda appears to have found out the hard way that the police have a no snitch policy similar to that of the streets and the criminal underworld where anyone who exposes wrongdoing or illegal activity to the authorities will soon find themselves the subject of swift retaliation.
In July 2020, Esqueda reportedly shared with the media exposing how police officers treated Eric Lurry, a Black man who died in police custody after cops allegedly slapped him, restricted his breathing, shoved a baton in his mouth and drove him to the police station instead of to the hospital even though he was apparently suffering complications due to drug use and despite police believing that he had swallowed drugs to avoid the cops finding them. The officers involved received minor punishments, but none of them were charged with any criminal wrongdoing. Esqueda, on the other hand, is now facing 20 years in prison after being accused of illegally using his department-issued laptop to access and then leak squad car video footage of the Lurry incident.
So basically, the police brutality and failing to provide Lurry with medical assistance wasnt worthy of criminal charges but exposing that behavior to the public certainly was.

10 yr old commits suicide after racial bullying
I literally felt nauseated reading this.
Utah girl, 10, commits suicide after being bullied for being Black, autistic
SNIP-
The girls mom, Brittany Tichenor-Cox, reached out to Davis School District several times to report that her daughter, Isabella Faith Tichenor, was bullied by classmates and her teacher for being a Black special needs student. Tichenor-Cox said school officials failed her child by allowing the harassment to foster for months without intervention
The death of the fifth-grader comes weeks after the U.S. Department of Justice outlined in a bombshell report that Davis School District administrators have intentionally ignored serious and widespread racial harassment in its schools for years.

Why are there so many derailed threads?
Is it just people not having forum etiquette?, or deliberate trolling?
Lately, on too many occasions, I start reading a thread about a topic that
interests me, only to find that its devolved into an entirely different conversation. I then have to wade through those posts to find responses related to the topic. What gives?
Am I the only person that is confused about Meta?
Seeing these new ads on tv about Zuckerbergs latest venture. My first thought was this looks weird as hell. But, I know my interest may differ from others.
What exactly is this and why would anyone want to live in a video game?
I mean, dont we already have Sims for people to create make believe lives?
Help me understand what this is supposed to be.
Which Group Is Full of Complete Idiots: the KKK, All of Florida, FOX News, and Texans?
Calif. High School in Trouble After Test Asks if Which Group Is Full of Complete Idiots: the KKK, All of Florida, FOX News, and TexansAccording to Fox 40, a high school in Rocklin is facing all of the heat after a history quiz appeared to ask students a trick question. The question reportedly asks students at Whitney High to point out A group of complete idiots, the choices were, the KKK, all of Florida, FOX News and Texans.
Seriously, how could the history teacher do this? This is fucking offensive AF. If I were a student I wouldve immediately protested. The clear answer is All of the above but that isnt listed as an option. The acceptable answer is obviously all of Florida but how can you not make a legit argument for Fox News or Texas?! Something tells me this is one of those tests where every answer is right because clearly every answer is right.

This is terrible and so inappropriate. I gotta admit I laughed out loud. This teacher will probably be looking for a new job soon.
The Harder They Fall- Easily now in my list of all time favorite movies- Netflix
As a kid I loved Spaghetti Westerns. Maybe it was the experience of watching these movies with dad. While this is not the first Black Western, it is definitely my favorite. I absolutely loved the reggae songs on the soundtrack, and if anyone is a Lauryn Hill fan. What a treat.
While fictional, it is inspired by the lives of some real people. Its also a timely film in terms of discussions about historical inaccuracy. As a kid watching Shane, Magnificent Seven, and so many others, I had no idea that there were black cowboys. I had never heard of Stage Coach Mary.
The real stage coach Mary was the first black USPS employee. A bad ass gunslinger that protected the mail. Thats not how she is portrayed in this movie. But again its. this is a fictional movie.
Meet Stagecoach Mary, the Daring Black Pioneer Who Protected Wild West Stagecoaches
Would-be mail thieves didnt stand a chance against Stagecoach Mary. The hard-drinking, quick-shooting mail carrier sported two guns and mens clothing.

Randi Weingarten's perfect response to Tom Cotton's homophobic statements
GOP senator calls lesbian educator a joke because she doesnt have kids.
Her response was awesome.
"Is he now disqualifying every nun from teaching? Or is this simply a new divisive & hateful homophobic slur against LGBTQ teachers?"

Rosedale NY. White Flight and the lies we keep telling ourselves
This is a spin-off of the Staten Island voting for Sliwa thread. https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=16009929
One poster noted that Archie Bunker seemed more like he was from Staten Island than Queens. Couldnt have been more wrong. In the 1970s, Queens went through the great white flight.
This footage below resurfaced last year that shows children being attacked. White folks protesting black people moving into the neighborhood. This is mid to late 1970s. Not the 50s or 60s.
We tell ourselves these lies, that this is not who we are. It is exactly who this country is. As long as we tell ourselves that lie, the harder it will be be for real change to come. White folks underestimate how racist a lot of other white folks are. Even the ones that claim they are not racist, but do not want to shift to a more equitable society. They dont want a shift in the balance of power. They will do what it takes to keep the status quo.All the while, claiming they are not racist. Cite every reason under the sun to keep black people in their place. America was, is and will always be a racist country. Now, you cant even talk about the ugly history without vitriol from right wing circles and even concern on the left to not talk about certain things pertaining to racism, for fear of further angering the right.
Colin in Black in Black and White. Well done!
No spoilers
I love it. Im only on the first episode. But I love that it is unapologetically black. The opening scene. Just wow!
The series is a mix of comedy and drama.
And I dont care that he didnt vote in 2016.
What he did for the black community cannot be erased because he didnt vote in 2016.
