Diabetes Shouldn't Bankrupt You

Nor should any other chronic health condition.

We are so far behind when it comes to caring for our citizens. Donnie is always saying "America First" but he sure doesn't mean "Americans First".

Sunday breakfast

I got some ambition today and mixed up a spinach-mushroom-and-feta quiche.

Ten thirty is the perfect time to eat a weekend breakfast, lol.

The advantage to this is that I'll have breakfast for myself all made for the week, now, since my hubby and sons won't touch this dish with a ten foot pole.

What's your go-to breakfast during the week?

I'm talking Monday thru Friday, not weekends when you may sleep in and pig out on Belgian waffles, bacon, etc. lol

I don't feel like eating anything until around 10:00. Coffee comes first. If I eat at all before noon, it's a piece of fruit such as a banana or some yogurt scooped out of the big carton while standing at the sink and watching my bird feeder.

My spouse can roll right out of bed and eat a seven course meal. And he's very fit and lean!

A shameful statistic for Ohio

http://www.times-gazette.com/news/20180104/ohio-near-bottom-in-infant-mortality-for-african-americans

I'd like to know what all the zealous Ohio "pro-lifers' are doing to combat this issue. Typically, all they do is harrass women going into PP clinics.

Troubling

I read this today in the New York Times.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/01/us/politics/trump-businesses-regulation-economic-growth.html?emc=edit_th_20180102&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=74838209

Basically, they're saying that businesses and corporations are all aglow for the coming year over the promise by Trump that he will take an axe to current "burdensome" regulations, and will not impose any new ones in the coming year. You can just hear this crowd singing "Happy Days Are Here Again!"

I found this overall cheeriness on the subject very off-putting, especially for the NYT. Very little focus was made on what effects this hands-off policy is going to have on down the road.

Building into wetlands will now be allowed. What happens when the next hurricane comes along? Mining companies will now be able to legally dump their toxic detritus into streams. How will that affect flora and fauna, as well as well water in the area? The NLRB reversed a decision making companies more responsible for decent working conditions for contractors' employees. And on and on.

Is this for real? Or am I off base here?

What do conservatives talk about?

I am sorta new to DU, lately, and I can't help but notice the wide variety of subjects that all of you enjoy and are passionate about.... Books, movies, nature, music, cooking, science, photography ........

That got me to wondering, what do right wing conservatives talk about? If they're all like Donnie, they don't read books. They think education is only for "liberal elites." They consider Hollywood full of "liberal loons", so they probably don't watch movies. I can't picture Donnie sitting through a play or a concert. They don't seem to value nature much, or appreciate our beautiful planet. They dismiss scientific facts as "fake news". So, I got to wondering, what the heck do they talk about when they're together? The weather? The stock market? Anyone have any ideas???

Another thing that drives me crazy

Is such widespread apathy or complacency among so many people. Both young and old. Lots of folks don't keep up or read the news or say "all politicians are crooked," etc. How can people not care about their own government and well being?

My hubby and I have gotten into "discussions" over this, as well as the fact that he did not vote for either Trump nor Hillary. (he was a Sanders supporter) I had tried to tell him over and over that no vote for Hillary was a vote FOR Trump, but he said he just couldn't bring himself to vote for Hillary. When I ask him why, he will say "I just don't trust her." To which I always reply "and you would trust Trump over Hillary?!?" he would then reiterate his dislike for Trump. It just goes in circles. The RWNJ's kind of got into his head a little, I think. Anyway, it's maddening! Look what we got now! A total mess!
