Frumpy - How The Gipsy Was Born (Live 1971)

From their second album, Frumpy 2.

I just got my copy of Frumpy, Attention! (1975) on vinyl delivered...a compilation album. All their original pressings are several hundreds of dollars for a record you can actually spin and I just can't get there...lol.

Frumpy was a German progressive rock/krautrock band based in Hamburg, which was active between 1970–1972 and 1990–1995. Formed after the break-up of folk rockers City Preachers [de], Frumpy released four albums in 1970–1973 and achieved considerable commercial success. The German press hailed them as the best German rock band of their time and their vocalist Inga Rumpf [de] as the "greatest individual vocal talent" of the contemporary German rock scene. They disbanded in 1972 although the various members all worked together at various times over the following two decades and they reunited again in 1989, producing three more albums over five years after which they disbanded once more.

Unfortunately, they were not played much in the US...shame. So freaking good.

White Bird - Bombay Calling - Child In Time } It's A Beautiful Day and Deep Purple

It's A Beautiful Day signature hit song "White Bird" is well known amongst rock fans of the late 1960's.

Among It's A Beautiful Day's self titled album "Bombay Calling" was the inspiration for Deep Purple's concert staple "Child In Time."

Three songs for my DU friends tonight, connected through time and a love of music.

White Bird - Live Extended Jam Version (no autotune, no pre-recorded backing tracks, just pure practice and talent)

Bombay Calling - 1969

Child In Time - Live - 1970 (that 70's audience looks like they are unaware of the greatness they are witnessing...)

Nick Drake - River Man (bonus cover by Madison Cunningham)

Nicholas Rodney Drake (19 June 1948 – 25 November 1974) was an English singer-songwriter known for his acoustic guitar-based songs. He did not find a wide audience during his lifetime, but his work gradually achieved wider notice and recognition.[1][2][3] Drake signed to Island Records when he was 20 years old and a student at the University of Cambridge. He released his debut album, Five Leaves Left, in 1969. He recorded two more albums—Bryter Layter (1971) and Pink Moon (1972). Neither sold more than 5,000 copies on initial release.[4] His reluctance to perform live, or be interviewed, contributed to his lack of commercial success. There is no known video footage of the adult Drake; he was only ever captured in still photographs and in home footage from his childhood.[5]

...snip...

Drake's music remained available through the mid-1970s, but the 1979 release of the retrospective album Fruit Tree allowed his back catalogue to be reassessed. By the mid-1980s, Drake was being credited as an influence by such artists as Robert Smith of The Cure and Peter Buck of R.E.M. In 1985, The Dream Academy reached the UK and US charts with "Life in a Northern Town", a song written for and dedicated to Drake.[6] By the early 1990s, he had come to represent a certain type of "doomed romantic" musician in the UK music press and was frequently cited as an influence by artists including Kate Bush, Paul Weller, Aimee Mann, Beck, Robyn Hitchcock and The Black Crowes.[7][8] Drake's first biography appeared in 1997, followed in 1998 by the documentary film A Stranger Among Us.

Saturday Night Album Rock - The Move - Looking On (1970) (The genesis of ELO)

The Move was effectively a dead band walking when Lynne joined in February 1970 after fronting (and producing) The Idle Race. Wood had wanted to launch a new group with Lynne that would feature rock and strings and retire the Move immediately. According to Wood, none of the members of The Move had any interest in the band at this point; Lynne in particular had joined the band solely so that he could get the separate orchestral project started with Wood.[3] But contractual obligations and management pressure kept the band name kicking, regardless of the drastic changes in sound and the unwillingness of the personnel.

Wood and Lynne took the opportunity to begin work on the embryonic Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) project in the studio and get the Move off the road, for the most part—the occasional live set in 1970 usually featured most of the tracks on Looking On, a cover of The Beatles' "She's a Woman," and one of The Move's singles, "I Can Hear The Grass Grow".

The album ends with an (uncredited, but usually attributed to Wood and Lynne together) doo-wop-style coda, "The Duke of Edinburgh's Lettuce".
