Uncontested: The 36 House Districts With Only One Major Party on the Ballot

The reason I wrote this because I can’t believe Paul Kosar is running unopposed! I thought he was one of the worst!!!! Even his family hates him.

https://www.270towin.com/news/2022/09/15/uncontested-the-36-house-districts-with-only-one-major-party-ballot_1419.html

As this year's primaries (view results by state) draw to a close, we count 36 U.S. House races where only one of the two major parties will be on the ballot. 24 of these are held by Republicans, 12 by Democrats.

17 incumbents have no opponent. In 13 other districts, opposition is from a 3rd party or independent candidate. Finally, in six California districts, Democrats won both positions in the top-two primary.

Looking back to similar races across the last two cycles, this year's total of 36 is in the middle. In 2018, there were 42 such races; that number declined to 27 in 2020.

Totally Unopposed
There are 17 incumbents - 14 Republicans and three Democrats - that have the ballot all to themselves. Their only opposition would be via write-in, where allowed.

In 2020, this number was 11, split more evenly with six Republicans and five Democrats.

Oz wants 5 debates as republicans question Fetterman's stroke recovery

This is low even for repugs. Fetterman should just say no.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna42638

Mehmet Oz formally challenged John Fetterman to five Pennsylvania Senate debates Friday, an opening salvo designed to help the Republican catch up with the Democratic front-runner and indirectly highlight his health as he recovers from a stroke.

Oz, the celebrity TV doctor, made sure to time his debate demand to coincide with Fetterman’s first public rally since he was debilitated by a stroke May 15, two days before the state’s primary. Fetterman, the state’s lieutenant governor, was hospitalized for days and temporarily lost his ability to speak fluidly.

Since then, Fetterman has maintained a sizeable lead in the polls, outspending Oz on TV and earning favorable media coverage for his campaign’s clever use of social media, at one point featuring "Jersey Shore" reality TV star Snooki to mock Oz’s out-of-state roots. Fetterman's campaign also slowly reintroduced the candidate to his followers by releasing highly edited videos with multiple cuts, which Republicans said purposefully disguised the speech problems Fetterman has acknowledged he developed as a result of the stroke.

Speaker Pelosi has done a tremendous job in the house

I am astonished at her ability to pass so many bills. Yes I know they go to the senate to die. But we always point out how close the senate is. The house is 220 to 211. You need 218 to pass most house bills. That means she’s got two vote leeway. That is not a lot. She’s amazing!!!!!

Sen. Patrick Leahy 'comfortably recovering' after hip replacement surgery

Good news. Really good news that they gave him a replacement instead of having him recover from the fall naturally. I think they have finally decided that replacement is the better option for all hip breaks. This should cut the recovery time down a lot. So glad that he is doing so well.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/sen-patrick-leahy-comfortably-recovering-after-hip-replacement-surgery/ar-AAZ3E5w

Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont is recovering at a Washington area hospital after surgery to replace a broken hip following a fall at his home, his office said Thursday evening.

The 82-year-old Democrat fell Wednesday night in McLean, Virginia, according to his office, which initially said the surgery was intended to “repair” his the hip. A subsequent statement said doctors decided to do “hip replacement surgery,” completed on Thursday afternoon.

Leahy and his wife, Marcelle, who were known to take long walks together on a daily basis before the fall, were “overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of support,” his office said in a statement following the surgery.

The senator's office added that he is expected to begin physical therapy “after sufficient healing.”

His office did not specify when Leahy is expected back on Capitol Hill. NBC News has reached out for comment.

The Senate is out of session until July 11.

Democrats hold the slimmest of margins in the evenly divided Senate. The absence of just one senator can sometimes delay a vote.

Republicans flip U.S. House seat in South Texas, historically a Democratic stronghold

Mayra Flores, a Republican, won a special election to fill the unexpired term of U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela. Another election will be held in November.

Republican Mayra Flores prevailed Tuesday in a special election for an open congressional seat in South Texas, marking a major breakthrough for Republicans eager to blaze new inroads in the historically blue region.

She beat Dan Sacnchez, the leading Democrat, outright in the closely watched race, according to Cook Political Report.

That is a lot of money lost for the state. Hopefully after covid, they will come back. Can New York lose that money annually?
