A Cook County judge on Monday found a Chicago police lieutenant not guilty after he stood trial on accusations that he shoved a flashlight between a clothed teen’s buttocks during an arrest.
Lt. Wilfredo Roman, 46, was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery and official misconduct after Cook County prosecutors alleged he used unjustifiable force on a 17-year-old during his arrest for carjacking on Feb. 9, 2021. Before walking away from the teen, prosecutors alleged, Roman said, “That’s what you get for carjacking.”
His case was heard before Cook County Judge Joseph Claps during a bench trial that began Friday.
“Given the clothes he was wearing, the thickness and his lack of movement, that’s not possible,” Claps said, reading his verdict to a courtroom beefed up with extra security.
Roman, who has been a Chicago cop since June 2000, is currently relieved of his police powers. Police officers and family members who stood outside the courtroom gave a small cheer after learning of the acquittal, before being told to quiet down. Family members wiped away tears.

A Richmond City Police officer is behind bars facing dozens of child pornography charges.
Officer David Stone, of Mineral, is currently being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange, according to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.
Stone, 51, was arrested on Jan. 25 and is facing 50 child pornography charges. Lousia County issued a search warrant to Stone’s home on Nov. 5.
“After a lengthy investigation, investigators seized multiple digital media devices to be examined by the LCSO Forensics Unit,” the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Friday. “After the items were examined, they were found to contain a large number of files containing images of child sexual exploitation, with several of the images matching those reported in the cyber-tip.”
Louisa County Deputies tell NBC12 that a tip from the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led to Stone’s arrest.
“I’m not aware of any videos, and I’m not aware of any videos involving the individual that was arrested,” Louisa County detective and PIO Chuck Love said.

A high-profile incident in which a Seattle Police officer doused a 7-year-old boy with pepper spray at a Black Lives Matter protest was “lawful and proper,” the results of a police probe released Friday said.
A compilation video showing the May 30 protest scene and a medic pouring milk over the crying child’s face was released by the Seattle Police Department’s Office of Police Accountability as the civilian-run group braced for backlash.
“OPA understands that this decision will be unpalatable to some and perhaps to many. This is understandable. In some respects, it is unpalatable to OPA,” the report said.
