The NY City Hall POLICE RIOT of '92 (Rudy was There)

This was the Patrolman's Benevolent Association (PBA) of NYC

Snip/ New York Magazine Oct 4 2021

At around 11 a.m. on September 16, 1992, Norm Steisel heard a roar from outside his office in City Hall. Peering out the window, he saw thousands of off-duty police officers filling the narrow park that surrounds the building, a grand neoclassical structure that, all of a sudden, had started to feel like the tightest of traps.

Steisel, then first deputy mayor of operations, heard officers chanting, “Dinkins gotta go!” and “The mayor’s on crack.” They carried signs bearing racist cartoon images of Mayor David Dinkins with humongous lips and nose and an Afro, including several calling the city’s first Black mayor a “washroom attendant.”

The officers had a permit to protest, which confined the demonstration to Murray Street, a road perpendicular to City Hall lined with Irish pubs. They were mad that Dinkins was pushing a bill that would change the composition of the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), the oversight body that examined complaints of police misconduct, from half-cop–half-civilian to all civilian and make it independent of the New York Police Department.

This change was spurred in by the beating of Rodney King , and not only in NYC

Meanwhile, Rudy Giuluani was also there, and with a microphone.... He said (same article/ snip)

“The reason the morale of the police department of the City of New York is so low is one reason and one reason alone: David Dinkins!” The crowd roared.

“The mayor doesn’t know why the morale of the police department is so low,” Giuliani said. “He blames it on me. He blames it on you. Bullshit!” Giuliani then attacked an anti-corruption commission impaneled by Dinkins, which he said was created “to protect David Dinkins’s political ass.” More cheers rose from the crowd.

If I remember correctly he repeated "Bullshit" several times really riling the cops up.

Then mistakenly some money thought a policeman's widow got arrested (she hadn't), yelled it out and the crowd rushed the building. The cars parked in front we're jumped on, and pummulted. Black Council woman Una Clark wasn't allowed in the building. A different group I'd cops were called to City Hall to protect it.

The officers then marched to, and stormed over the quite near by Brooklyn. Bridge. Along the way they insulted a woman journalist and a Black cameraman from CBS. A NYT reporter was kicked in the stomach.
---------------------------------------

There were very recent events then that had exasperated the tensions between Mayor Dinkins, and the police, which the article detailed.

The Case for Eating Pizza with a Knife & Fork! 😄

Ok and I happen to be eating pizza right now 👍

Like most people, and certainly a NYC"r I have/had my pizza slices (I loooove pizza) the usual way -
folded in half, let some of the oil drip off, then chomp down. 👍
I'd usually have 2 slices, but sometimes 3.

As I got into my 40's and had trouble losing weight I was eating my then pizzaria, and it dawned on me to try a knife and fork. 🤔
This was decades before Mayor DeBlasio was snarked for that! I had issues w him - but that was not one of them!

Well - I found out it Slowed my eating down! That then cut eating a third slice by 90%!
Thus saving me $, and some extra pounds.
.
A win-win!

And for Fun...

While not quite a roller coaster my emotions reccently...

When I found out about this indictment I felt like (safely) shot out of a cannon - ebullient! I had hoped, believed more than not he would be indicted related to J6 efforts.
But not totally sure as were more so.

Then as they were discussing today's then pending arraignment last night; I'd feel good, then get teary eyed as the efforts of trying to over turn our legit election on J6.

And, yeah, when they talked last night to Officer ?Dough, and Officer Dunn today - yeah, teary-eyed. LOE are sometimes suspect to me just bc of all the horific things some, even a lot have done (and a rare incidents I saw in protests I've been at) being reported (how many unknown except to those involved, and their close people) but those men, and women were defending the people inside, and our (even if flawed) Democracy with their health, lives in danger. And a few later perished. JHC!

Just kind of Woah! all over!

Bring on THE Trial!!!!!

Dealing with Very Hot Weather. Advice from a NYC'r who's dealt with Hot and Humid Weather 4 decades!

OF course - drinks lots of watet ! A/C as much as you can. Then....

As an 🗽 NYC'r I've had to deal with 90°F+, 95°F+, even 101°F on rarer occasions. This has been so even in the 1970's, if less.
Often with higher humidity levels - which slows down our ability to sweat and release heat. So 90, 95 will feel hotter when it's humid! (for those who have llived in the hot but drier South West, San Diego etc. I've visited the SW high desert!)

At home take a set of paper towels kept together about length of your arm, food lengthwise bingo a long about 3 inch strip- soak in cold water, gently squeeze out water till very damp.
Fold into a "U" shape that will fit around your neck. Put in freezer. Remove later, put a towel over you shoulders, put frozen paper towels around your neck.

Do you know Why we have such folds on our ears?
(from a great anatomy teacher, and I was bored w anatomy till him!)

It's not really to hear better. It's to help keep our brains cool!

You know how good it feels cup dip your hands, or feet in cold water (aaahhhhh)?
Its because this areas are full of capillaries! As the blood flows back through your veins it's bern cooled by the water, and cools your body down.

The folds in your ears are also filled with them!
So putting a cold wash cloth, maybe even a frozen paper towel (for a min or less) on them will help cool your brain down! That will make you feel better physically, and psychologically.

Finally for the longer term.
Get Vitamin C with Flavonoids! Take 1000 grams a day. If concerned start w 500g.

I did this in 1979 for totally different reasons (and even without the flavonoids) in the late Spting.
Remember I talked about NYC Hot, Humid Weather?
Well, after only 1 day at college, or work I felt wiped out!
But by Summer 1980 I could go 2, sometimes even most of a third day *without* feeling that way!
I was astonished!

It does something, esp as I learned later especially w the flavonoids that strengthen the capillaries which then can release the heat better. Even it seems in humid hot weather! I've lived it. 🙂👍

Hope this helps! 🙂👍

A (?) Possible Idea to increase the Albedo Effect in The Artic...

Albedo Effect: The lighter the color, white being the most of a thing the more sunlight is reflected back into space - keeping the air cooler.

While I don't know if this is feasible I've had this idea for a bunch of years ...

What if both a single Nation plus International Cooperative efforts had a lot of our ships in the Artic and had stretches of very sturdy white, off white materials stretched out above the water between ships, or on it (maybe with floatation items) to mimic alot of the lost ice sheets. Maybe it would vary according to seasonal changes.

Do you think it's feasible?
And done in a way it doesn't effect the animal populations, (+underwater plants?) negativity.

Who remembers Operation Sail 1976?!

As an NYC'r we had so much fun!

We lived in upper western Washington Heights. So me, my sis, four of my cousins, and two uncles walked our way down to under The George Washington Bridge, and The Little Red Light House by The Hudson River that faces Northern NJ.

There we watched a bunch of the Tall Ships sail up, under and past the GWB, then turn around, and sail back down.
It was amazing to see so many traditional sailing ships with all their different detailing! They're so beautiful.

Earlier on TV we saw the fireboats spraying red, "white" (..regular water), and blue water arcs. We saw the big, modern battleships with their crews standing on decks.

There were lots of little private boats out, and about, too - especially in Lower Hudson Bay.

Way later we went to Lower Manhattan to see the fireworks, too. It was a great celebration!

Interesting - for DC's "A Capitol Fourth" before closing with ?The Stars and Stripes" they played...

"Let Freedom Ring" which basically has some lines about people not all being free as they should be etc.
Appropo. 👍
