WarGamer's JournalFor most of humanity, I'd like to apologize...
I'm truly sorry that others hate you for who and what you are... I'm sorry that hatred drives people to gun down families in their homes, I'm sorry that people bomb family neighborhoods into dust, I'm sorry that one group of people wishes another group of people would cease to exist... I'm sorry that people surround the neighborhoods of others with walls and razor wire, I'm sorry that people starve to death while their leaders buy guns and bombs...
I'm also sorry that some people in the world enable the hatred... some people that are always there to give money and weapons to facilitate the terror...
Mankind has not only FAILED to live in harmony with our planet... mankind has FAILED to live together, as human beings in peace.
I'm simply sorry.
The 'Devil's Playground' of Urban Combat That Israel Is Preparing to Enter
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/24/world/middleeast/israel-hamas-invasion.htmlHeavy fire from rooftops and booby-trapped apartments. Armor-piercing projectiles blowing up troop carriers. Fighters blending in with civilians, launching drone ambushes, or surging from tunnels full of enough ammunition, food and water to sustain a long war.
As the Israeli Army gathers tanks at the Gaza border for a threatened invasion aimed at crushing Hamas, experts are warning that the countrys troops could face some of the fiercest street-to-street combat since World War II in Gaza City and other densely packed areas.
Urban warfare studies and American officials offer dire comparisons to Iraq: Think of Falluja in 2004, the most intense battles that American troops had faced since Vietnam, or the nine-month fight to defeat the Islamic State in Mosul in 2016, which led to 10,000 civilian deaths. Then multiply the destructive toll, possibly exponentially.
I agree with this guy:
Its going to be ugly, said Lt. Col. Thomas Arnold, a U.S. Army strategist who has published studies on urban operations in the Middle East. Cities are the devils playground they make everything infinitely more difficult.
Judge temporarily lifts Trump gag order in federal 2020 election case
This is for all the people that think Trump violated the gag order last night...
https://www.reuters.com/legal/judge-temporarily-lifts-trump-gag-order-federal-2020-election-case-2023-10-20/
Acting on the same day that a New York state judge fined Trump $5,000 for violating a gag order in a civil trial, U.S. District Tanya Chutkan in Washington put on hold the order she issued earlier in the week while she considers the former president's request for a longer pause while he challenges it.Lawyers for Trump on Friday asked Chutkan to lift the restrictions while he asks a U.S. appeals court to strike down an order by the judge that they called "breathtakingly overbroad."
Car Owners Fall Behind on Payments at Highest Rate on Record...
I can just feel it...
This economy is weird right now... YES people make more money nowadays. But yesterday I paid $5.89 for a Filet of Fish sandwich. NOT the combo with fries and Coke... just the sandwich.
I used to complain about the $100 Cable TV/Internet package... Nowadays I pay over 100 for just the internet, $80 for Youtube TV and then add on MAX and Prime and Curiosity...
And don't get me started on Car prices...
Well it looks like Americans are struggling to pay for their cars.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-21/high-car-loan-interest-rate-payments-americans-struggle-with-monthly-bills
With interest rate hikes making newer loans more expensive, millions of car owners are struggling to afford their payments. Its a clear indication of distress at a time when the economy is sending mixed signals, particularly about the health of consumer spending.
The percent of subprime auto borrowers at least 60 days past due on their loans rose to 6.11% in September, the highest in data going back to 1994, according to Fitch Ratings. In April that figure slipped from a previous high of 5.93% in January. But after burning through tax returns, contending with a shakier job market and grappling with still-elevated inflation, more car owners have become delinquent.
To add...
When I was at McDonalds, there was NO ONE inside at the cash register, BTW nowadays they only have ONE cash register... I ordered through a touchscreen kiosk.
It's like they say "If you make us pay $16/hr... we're going to cut half the workforce.
Predictable...
IMHO, "Defense of Democracy" isn't enough...
I look at the polls... if they're to be believed...
I watch what's going on in the country and I just get the feeling that the Democratic Party is relying too much on "defending Democracy" and "insurrectionists" in their campaign messaging.
Look at the polls. It's not working. American voters are fickle. American voters don't like chaos. Normal people see a world at war, the Doomsday clock historically close to Midnight, rampant inflation that has made life difficult for most of the population...
A recent AP-NORC survey was released showing a HUGE portion of the population, both R's and D's who doubted Democracy as a form of government.
49% say Democracy is not working well in the USA.
47% say Democrats doing poor job of upholding Democracy
56% say Democrats doing poor job of upholding Democracy
53% of people say the Government doesn't represent people "like us"... 60% of GOP + Ind and 40% of Dems.
And the rich get richer...
I hate to say it... but if Trump wins, it'll be because the American voters are simply pissed off.
The American voter is like the 2 year old in the high chair with red Spaghetti-os sauce all over the face and throwing the bowl to the floor.
So what can be done? I'm not sure. A lot of what's going on is NOT in our control.
White House has discussed U.S. military response if Hezbollah attacks Israel
WTF??
No. Just no. Israel is more than capable of taking care of itself... that's why we've been giving them billions of dollars for decades.
Don't feed the neocons.
https://www.axios.com/2023/10/17/israel-news-us-military-hezbollah-attacks
Why it matters: Lebanon-based Hezbollah joining the war would dramatically escalate the Middle East's worst conflict in decades raising the likelihood of mass civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon and possibly drawing in the U.S.
Doesn't matter WHO is responsible for the Hospital strike killing 500+... Israel will be blamed.
That's really pretty much it...

Israel-Hamas war live: Gazans say Israeli water supply move a 'distraction'
An estimated one million Gazans have been displaced in the first seven days of conflict with Israel, according to the United Nations agency supporting Palestinian refugees, as aid groups said the situation in the besieged enclave is catastrophic.

And... this is something.
Palestinians in Gaza can go to tent cities in the Sinai Desert Former Israeli minister
The interview has been shared widely on social media, with Ayalon receiving widespread criticism for his comments, which many said were a call for ethnic cleansing.
We told the Gazan people to clear the area temporarily, so we can go and take Hamas out, and then, of course, they can come back, said Ayalon, speaking to Marc Lamont Hill on an episode of UpFront that aired on Friday.
Just curious... the most rec'd thread in DU history?
Was impressed to see a 300 rec thread today... got me wondering.
