In reply to the discussion: This Is the America White People Wished For. This Is the America White People Want [View all]northremembers
(63 posts)I'm not disagreeing with anything here. I just want to point out that what the Russians (and Chinese, and North Koreans, and any of our other enemies) want is for us to hate each other. We all hate Trump just as much as conservative radicals hate us. For our enemies that's mission accomplished.
Every group listed in the original post is truly hated by Trump voters and they have made serious effort to subvert as many people as possible. We absolutely need to stand up for them. We also need to remember that white people are also our people. We also stand up for them and that needs to be a clear message. Republicans deliberately target minority groups because they know we will stand up for them and then Republicans say to white voters we are against whites.
I'm not saying we shouldn't stand up for people. We should, but we have to be more than obstructionists. We need to lead. When we buy into the hatred we lose sight of the real work we want to do. We fail to put forward a better vision all people, including whites, can be a part of. Every time we call a conservative stupid or deplorable we strengthen their commitment against us.
Hatred is a conservative value. Cooperation is the liberal equivalent. Our vision of shared success needs to be louder than their message of hate. Every time we give in to conservatism's hatred we keep America divided. We are not the good guys because Trump is evil. We are the good guys because we believe our country is most successful when we succeed together. We need to take the energy we are putting into hating Trump and put that energy into passing universal health care, affordable housing, and equal opportunity. Isn't that what we really believe in?
