Second Oval Lake Eagle Creek Twisp River Most Beautiful Place On Earth - Area Might Burn [View all]
Second Oval is a lake up the Eagle Creek drainage of the Twisp River. The lake sits at the foot of a huge mountain. The steep rocky sides of the mountain go straight down to the nice dark blue water lake. There are boulders the size of houses that fell from this mountain for years on the East side of the lake, and good camping on the West side. I have visited most high lakes in the Methow, and this one is my favorite. It's an 9 to 10 mile ride / walk into it, and most folks just stop at First / West Oval and call it good. The trail into Second Oval winds up some hills and crosses a rock slide almost a half mile wide and is very very dangerous for horses. The slide goes down for probably 2,000 feet, so don't slip. It is an unbelievable area. It is so steep you can reach off your horse and pick rocks off the side of the mountain. Truly scary.
Paradise.
There is no way to describe the beauty of Second Oval Lake.
And to think the whole area may burn makes me want to cry.
