(37,648 posts)It had crippling debt. When Bain bought it, it DECREASED the debt by using Bain's real estate holdings. Bain continued to hold it for 13 years, trying to get it out of debt, to no avail.
What happened in the interim is that the retail world changed drastically. From brick and mortar toys-only stores with normal prices to brick and mortar big box discount stores like WalMart and Target, along with huge online sales from Amazon and specialty toy sites.
There are many wacko conspiracy theories, like the Holocaust didn't happen, and we never went to the moon. All those theories have "sources" and "facts," none of which are in legitimate investigative sources.
Yes, I know a bit about venture capitalism. And there are many sources on the internet explaining what happened to Toys R Us, as I stated above, and add to that poor management.
If you invest in the stock market, you know that Amazon killed many brick and mortar retail businesses...like Toys R Us. Add bad management in the form of taking on enormous, unprecedented debt that even bankrtupcy couldn't take off the books...and you have the demise of a business.
