I pissed off a couple of economic professors by interjecting questions about the effect of asymmetric information on value creation. Felt that the use of data was so uneven along ethnic and class lines vs. marketing, that when FB really started to takeoff it just made me shudder. At that time, I really just thought it would lead to buying nutritionally worthless foods to higher degrees, and all manner of wasteful doodads, etc. driven by psychometric marketing tactics. The snowballing of political machinations and malicious propaganda has been way worse than anything I imagined back then.

These days when I’m asked if I am on FB, I say: no, never joined. I have a degree in economics and know better.

I’ve missed out on a lot as a result, but meh, I’m fine with that.
