family members and having the rest of their lives affected by consequences, guilt, being orphaned and unloved, economic devastation of families and futures.

Know what you mean. But there are really bad signs that COVID itself will make opening schools in districts that shouldn't be very difficult.

And this goes to the deepest concerns of parents. All the current noise is about the desperate and very real need of many parents to get back to work. But there's almost no mention that families with one working parent or other adult at home aren't so desperate for schools to provide daycare that they'd put their own and their families' lives, and their children's health and futures, on the line to get it.

All in all, my guess is it's likely that thousands of school districts will be home schooling until vaccination becomes effective.
