I live in earthquake country, so we've always been good at keeping 2+ weeks of supplies on hand in case the big one hits. My town is pretty wealthy and monoculture, so I don't expect a lot of unrest in my immediate neighborhood regardless of which way the election swings. However if it does hit the fan, either with the election or Covid, I'll be prepared.
For heating up soup - we have an old fondue set that uses denatured alcohol for heat. Has worked great for us during power outages. If you get a chance to get your hands on one of these, I highly recommend!

I still have months worth of dried foods with 20-25 year shelf life that will probably last longer

Camp stove running on disposable propane bottle is a good backup cooking source.
