(58,785 posts)But I'm not in his position. Btw, around the time McCain ran for president the first time he was famous for having an explosive temper and frequently abusing others with it. It was a big deal because for a prospective president it was a big deal. He adjusted that behavior, and his image, before his run in 2008.
What I remember most powerfully, though, is attending a panel discussion he was part of, back in the 1990s, and realizing that he didn't seem as intelligent and knowledgeable as one would expect a man in his position to be. Figured he was just one of many sons of privileged Republicans who are elevated to high offices regardless of merit. Nothing I ever saw since changed that evaluation.
I am of course grateful for whatever caused him to change his vote on the ACA practically on his deathbed.
