You would have a geat-grandparent in common.

If you don't have a grandparent (or great, or great-great, or on up) in common, there's a removal somewhere. In other words, in order NOT to be a removed cousin, you must both be in the same generation. Your first cousin'd child is not in the same generation you are, because your first cousin is, and that cousin't child is one generation of. Hennce, forst cousin, once removed.
