(22,280 posts)31. I was 9 when that happened and remember seeing it on the news
nightly. (back when news was really news)
That photo has shown up in articles, books and TV programs about the Civil Rights Movement so many times that it is almost as well known as the photo of the Sailor kissing the woman in the white dress on V-E day.
And yes, the sheer hatred on that woman/girl's face is appalling and a bit frightening, and it is being recycled continually today.
If you have not done so, watch "Them". on Prime. The women remind me of the photo from Little Rock
