The next few months are going to be ugly and we will get blamed for everything from crime to Christmas shopping shortages.

I agree with your sentiments but there has to be a bigger picture goal. It does no good to be the party of good things if we can't get elected. Staying in power isn't the goal. Avoiding backsliding while we are out of power is.
