I think he was confusing his talking points, and mixed up Iran and Iraq. Before Iran marched through Syria, they'd have to march OVER the Zagros and through Iraq! That's a pretty dismal slog if you ask me!

Iraq has very little access to the sea; they have almost no Gulf littoral, and the Shatt-al-Arab waterway is still iffy--between the silting over from the years of poor/no maintenance AND the shit that was sunk in the thing--it's a tough slog to get up that way with any tonnage at all--you want your NOTAMS up to date and even at that you're taking chances.

Regardless of who wants to march to the Med, you've still got Turkey up top and Israel down below to pinch off any potential misadventures using Syria's or Lebanon's littorals.

He really stuck it in the grinder with that dumbass comment, IMO.
