(9,971 posts)which is why I selected "other" although one or two are still on the list. My vote was always for Uruguay...decent climate, reasonable government in recent years, good soccer team, and not likely to drop a bomb on anyone in the near future. But my husband doesn't speak Spanish, so there's that, although I'm told there's a pretty good expat community, at least in Montevideo.
He'd prefer one of the Caribbean countries, where he wouldn't have to learn another language. He's visited several and liked them. I think Turks and Caicos is high on his list. I like Trinidad.
A surprise on the list with both of us was Botswana, which is the most stable country in Africa. The big draw there is that they are calling for tech people and don't care about your color. He's a geek-for-life so that would suit him just fine. The political climates next door kind of make us nervous though.
