(35,992 posts)Parental leave is such an important thing for parents to bond with their new baby. I'm in Australia where parental leave is legislated for any employee who's worked for more than 12 months in a job (I suspect that for casuals and contractors that's not great news). I had my baby back in 1991 when things weren't as balanced as they are now, and remember being pressured to return to work fulltime after my 12 weeks maternity leave had run out. I asked to come back part-time and was told I needed to decide if I wanted a career or a family.
(this is the bit I've edited) - I did read the thread you mentioned after posting here, and suspect the person was a bit clumsy with what they were saying, but I definitely didn't read it as some RW-type of pro-employer/anti-employee thing. They did say they support paid parental leave, and that to me is really important...
