8th graders spend the whole year on American history 1750-2000.
Along the way, the constitution of both the country & the state are taught.
There's a test per quarter, but the 4th quarter is the statewide Constitution test.
They can't graduate & go to high school without passing it. (There are an appeals & alternative process options, but they're not easy to get through.)
The test covers a lot of the basics of democracy that you & I would have called civics back in the day.
It's pretty comprehensive.
I just subbed a couple of 8th grade social studies class in the last couple weeks.
One was working on the end of WWII but the problems were class work. Homework was the study guide for Article II of the constitution.
The other class was on the robber baron era, but they all had copies of a 6x9 soft cover book that was the workbook for the Constitution test.
