People like to point to Iraq and Katrina, and then the Great Recession as reasons Bush's approval tanked in his second term, and while they certainly didn't help, his approval was more tied to gas prices than anything else.

Pretty much from the start of his second term, to the end, gas prices rose year over year and each year, he finished with a worse approval than the year before.

It'll always come back to the economy and gas prices. It sucks but that's the reality.
