14. My father was one

of 14 siblings. They spelled our last name many different ways .... with or without an "a," one or two "l's," one or two "t's." It is mandatory for Irish to mis-spell words, even if they are speaking rather than writing. In fact, there can be two "e's" in the word in question, when speaking of fire flies ..... or, "enlightening bugs." (If I had a penny for every time a friend noted my spelling error, I'd be richer than Elon Muskette.)

Cruz gets tasked with being the lightning rod, because those who find him repulsive tend to react to his crap. He isn't worried about losing votes, because he knows his base hates him, too. The republican leadership -- if it can be called that -- did not want one of the jackasses from the House being the party's lead spokesperson, because they are at risk of losing support.
