54. Just to clarify, my dad is employed by FEMA for pay. He's a civil engineer who lost his full time

job (most likely through age discrimination, but did not have the gumption or resources to fight that) a few years ago.

He, was fortunate to find work with FEMA. Like many of those he works with, he's hired on a continuing temporary basis, I guess you could say. They never seem to know exactly how long an assignment will be or when the next will come along, but he's had plenty of work with them, so it's worked out pretty well for him.
