I'm assuming that there are fewer places to vote during early voting than on election day, right?

That seems to be the reasons for these long lines. I'm in a typical precinct in St. Paul, MN, and we have a 60% turnout for every general election. There are no lines at our polling place longer than four or five people on election day. That's one of the reasons I vote then. We don't really have early voting here, although, you can go in and fill out an absentee ballot just fine, but only at the county clerk's office.

There are never long delays at polling places on election day, though.
